Kaori's thumb hovered over the 'send' button. However, the hot air by her sensitive ear gave her a reason to look away from the illuminated screen momentarily.
And she released a squeal when she did so, startled by the fact that the strange L was so close to her ear. She leapt from her seat, pressing her back against the far side of the car.
"What are you doing?!" She yelped. "You're so creepy!"
He seemed to disregard her reaction as he leaned back to his appropriate seat. "Who, exactly, are you sending those long messages to?" He pondered aloud while he seemed bored.
Kaori frowned. L already knew a lot about her, and she believed he knew who she sent the text to already. Yet, he asked anyway. "Someone important." She muttered.
"Hm... I figured as much." He said to no one in particular, except for himself.
As if L wasn't odd enough according to Kaori, he pulled his long legs to his chest and slouched his back over his knees. The girl was sure that she wouldn't be able to hide the astonishment on her face.
"Staring is rather rude, don't you think Inoue?" He commented. He didn't turn his head to look at her, but his pupils flicked towards her, signifying that he was, in fact, speaking directly to her.
Kaori scoffed. She really couldn't have any secrets around this man. But if anyone knew anything about her precious Lawliet, she was sure that L may be the one person who knew something. "You're creepy, L." She said.
"Please refrain from calling me 'L.' When we work, I'm called 'Ryuuzaki,' and I'm sure I've explained that before."
"Why do you sit like that?" Kaori asked with no attempt to hide the way that she thought of him.
"I was waiting for you to ask a question like that." He seemed pleased by the fact that she asked him a simple question. "You see, sitting like this increases my reasoning ability by forty percent." He pointed his index finger in the air as if it made perfect sense to him.
But Kaori still found it strange. She finally pressed the 'send' button on her cell-phone as she shrugged off the pressing irritation that L caused her.
"Oh, look at that." The disheveled man seemed to grow slightly excited. "We're already here."
The two of them were dropped off at a secretive entrance, and awaiting them inside was extensive security with screenings and metal detectors. "I'm going to need you to remove all of your jewelry, your belt, or anything with metal." L informed.
And she soon found out that he definitely wasn't exaggerating. First, she removed typical items like her cell-phone and earrings. But as soon as she walked through the detector, the alarm buzzed through the room. Next, she removed her leather boots and walked through the detector once again. Just as it did previously, the device buzzed. After that, she tried removing the suspenders that she wore over her shoulders. Again, she was unsuccessful in getting through the security.
"This is pissing me off!" Kaori yelled angrily. Her day had already been longer than usual, and this security system just irritated her further.
"Now, now Inoue. There's no reason for you to get angry." L said in his usual monotonous voice.
Her only remaining garment that she could take off were her stockings, so she began to do just that; at least, until she caught L watching her. She screeched and picked up the boot that sat on the floor beside her. She roughly threw it at the despicable man, though his surprisingly quick reaction speed shocked her.
"Y-you pervert!" She accused with a flushed face.
L blinked as he comprehended the nature of her words. "I'm a... pervert?" He whispered to himself as though he tried to make sense of the word.
