For the sake of a dramatic exit, Kaori left the elevator and uncomfortable accompaniment without knowing what floor she was actually on.

After circling through the halls for a full thirty minutes, she finally realized it was the floor of her apartment: The thirteenth level.

As realization finally dawned on her she released a long "oh" of comprehension. Ryuuzaki had dropped her off at her room so that she could adequately complete her hacking task in the privacy of her room. At least, with 'privacy' from Misa and Light's awareness. Of course, there were still security cameras everywhere, yet she could be sure that no one knew of her intentions except for the childish man who ordered them.

Though, she was still puzzled as to where to begin. As far as she knew, the only computer access was available in the large room on the first floor.

Kaori nearly yelped when the standard metallic phone started to ring. Preparing herself for Ryuuzaki's tired voice, she grudgingly picked up the phone. She didn't say "hello," nor did she offer any sort of greeting. She just waited for further instruction.

"I'm sure you're wondering about the constant surveillance in this situation." Once again, the notorious L managed to convey her thoughts. "There are only a few cameras in the bedroom, so if you sit with your back to the wall on top of the bed, we will not be able to see whatever you're doing on a laptop."

"Nice to know." Kaori commented, though she still wondered about getting her hands on a computer.

"Also, I'm sure you're wondering about how you plan on accomplishing your task without a computer." She nearly cursed at him again for the fact that he understood her thoughts accurately. "There is a laptop in the desk out in the living room. That should be enough for you. Further, it is directly registered to one of Watari's computers. If you try to do anything... questionable, we will know immediately.

"Of course, if Light and Misa ask about what you are doing, I will honestly tell them that you are trying to hack into a few peoples' databases in order to help determine if they are Kira or not. Close enough to the truth, is it not?" Ryuuzaki seemed pleased with himself, though Kaori was less than amused.

"Got it." She said with an equally monotonous tone.

"And remember, don't do anything -"

Kaori interrupted him.  "- Questionable. Yeah, I know."

"Good. Good lu-" She slammed the phone back on the stand before he could finish his encouraging words; the few he actually bothered to say.

Just as she was told, she pulled the new-looking laptop from the desk and brought it over to the already made bed. She unzipped the front pouch of one of her suitcases and retrieved a pair of slim glasses.  She climbed onto the mattress, folded her legs, and leaned against the backboard while she tucked her glasses frames behind her ear.

Kaori's glasses weren't for her eyesight; she was perfectly fine in that aspect.  But due to her many hours in front of computers, her eyes became watery and bloodshot.  Her concerned mother took her to the eye doctor, and he prescribed glasses that had specific fibers infused into the glass that would shield her eyes from the potentially harmful rays that were emitted from computer screens. As long as she used them when she spent time in front of a computer screen, which was all that was necessary.

Upon starting the computer, she noticed that it was already programmed with Microsoft programs and internet browsers. Once she clicked on a few items, she became fully immersed in coding; using absolutely everything she had learned from her two years at the University.

-----+-----

The only thing that pulled Kaori from her trance-like, overly focused state as she spent hours coding was the obnoxious sound of the telephone ringing.  She answered, dreading the voice she assumed she would hear from the other end.
