The next day, Ryuuzaki and Kaori learned that Edward was unconscious for a little while, but when he woke up, he remembered nothing about being Kira. He did, however, remember that he claimed that Kaori's true last name was 'LeFolle,' the same as his.

Fed up and tired of dealing with the man, they left him in the hands of the FBI. But the question of the girl's surname still bothered her.

She spent a few hours hacking into websites and articles on Ryuuzaki's computer as he seemed to absent-mindedly look over her shoulder, always having a plate of sweets in front of him.

Finally, she came across a hidden file on a page regarding the deceased businessman Elliot LeFolle, otherwise known as Edward's father. The file was uploaded to the page in the form of a scanned image ten years ago, but the date imprinted in a familiar handwriting represented about twenty years before the present time. But as soon as it was uploaded to the site, it was deleted.

The handwriting startled her due to its familiarity. Kaori scrawled a few letters on a piece of paper beside the laptop and held it up beside the screen to examine the writing closely. She knew that twenty years earlier, she was either unborn or an infant, so the possibility that it was her own handwriting wasn't considered. But there was one person's handwriting resembled hers closely: Her mother's.

The document appeared to be a letter, addressed to Edward LeFolle. When she read the first sentence, she eagerly continued, reading each word quicker than the last. And at the end, it was signed by her mother.

While she was able to make sense of the words, written in English, she didn't understand the meaning behind the letter and she leaned back and sighed angrily. Luckily, she had a remarkably intelligent friend that could help.

"Ryuuzaki, please read this and tell me what the heck it means." She said and turned the laptop towards him. Thus, he set the device on his knees and carefully scrolled through the letter.

While she was eager to know his conclusion, her anxiety prevented her from sitting still. As Ryuuzaki focused on the letter, he left his plate of sweets unattended and instead chewed on his thumbnail.

She pinched a miniature vanilla cupcake between her fingers and ate it in a single bite. The young man froze, his pupils in the corners of his eyes staring intently at the girl as she slowly chewed the fluffy cake. "Did you just take my cupcake?" Although his tone was monotonous, his voice possessed an element of darkness.

Kaori blinked, slightly surprised by how possessive he seemed over a tiny piece of cake. She was very aware of how much he loved his sweet things, but the expression she received from him was almost scary. She would've been terrified if she didn't know that he would never intentionally hurt her.

"Yes, I did take your cupcake." She admitted honestly, examining her fingers and finding some icing remaining on her index finger. She raised her hand to her lips with the intent of licking the sugary paste off of her finger.

But Ryuuzaki quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand away from her own face, bringing her fingers near his lips. He licked the icing from her index finger, and the girl released a yelp and jumped back.

He opened his eyes and looked at her seriously with a half-lidded gaze, still holding onto her wrist. "Don't take my cake." He instructed boldly.

Finally, he let go of her and reverted his attention to the letter written by Kaori's mother.

"This confirms that you are, unfortunately, the child of this man." Ryuuzaki declared and swallowed before continuing. "This letter, as I'm sure you've noticed, is addressed to Mr. LeFolle from your mother, but it's not exactly a happy letter. Your mother seems to be angry and made claims as though this man tried to take a child from her. I can only assume that child was you, Kaori."
