Loki spun on his heel and marched off, walking quicker than he'd ever moved before. I trotted along behind him and Rebecca drifted alongside. Sophie had a small robot cat slinking by her side. It was lilac in colour with a tartan rear end, tail waving in the air. I watched it for a few seconds before tripping over a rock and landing face first on the road's surface.
"Ow," I groaned, rolling onto my back and staring at the crystal clear sky. "We're never going to get to Odin in time, Loki, so slow down."
"I believe I am referred to as King Odin," a voice snapped. I tilted my head back to see a pair of boots. Craning my neck further I saw the King of Asgard glaring down at me.
"Sorry," I whispered, scrambling to my feet and edging behind Loki. "Been in Midgard for most of my life. Sort of forgot."
"Two of your sentences then were without 'I'," Odin pointed out. I felt my face and neck flush scarlet and I hid behind the god of mischief. He turned his head to look at me curiously.
"Hiding behind me won't do anything," Loki said. "King Odin dislikes me more than you."
"That is not true," Odin said. "You are my son, Loki."
"Adopted," I pointed out. I got an elbow in the face from Loki and a death stare from Odin. I took a step back and retreated to the back of the Super Glitches trio.
"Loki, either way, you are late for my meeting with your experiments," Odin said. At this I frowned.
"Experiments?" Sophie echoed my thoughts.
"You do not believe that he would have given you powers for no reason, do you?" Odin asked. "No, he was trying to see what would happen when mortal beings were given extreme powers. It was believe that you would all die immediately but instead you have flourished. Extraordinary."
"Hey!" Rebecca said grumpily. "We aren't lab rats!"
"Yeah, we're people!" Sophie continued. "We have feelings."
"And maybe we would not have 'flourished' so much if left here in Asgard," I said coldly. "We were living in Midgard, mate. We had to learn to fend for ourselves pretty damn quick. All of our lives we have been struggling against society, every word uttered by children instantly shouted down and ignored. But here we are, facing off an idiot for a ruler. Guess what?" I paused and raised my head higher. "Maybe we are experiments. But when experiments go wrong, they glitch, don't they? We are glitches. And the glitches in the experiments are usually a lot more dangerous than the experiment itself, unable to be contained or stopped by the creators." I grinned my evil smile, wide mouth and nearly every bracketed tooth on display. My braces glinted in the sunlight and my narrowed eyes added an aura of cruelty. Odin backed away and then raised his hand.
"For your insolence," he boomed. "All four of you wrongdoers shall be cursed. Your lives will take their course on Midgard and you, Loki Laufeyson, shall be sent to their school!" Lightening crackled and thunder exploded through the sky, deafening me and terrifying Sophie's little cat.
"Isn't it a girls' school?" Loki asked, confused. Odin laughed.
"Indeed it is, my boy," he chuckled. "And hence, you will be the only male pupil."
"What?! How is that going to work?!" Rebecca cried. "He'll be noticed immediately!"
Odin pointed a hand at me and the storm quelled for a moment. "She is goddess of deceit," he hissed. "She will make sure to right the wrongs or she will die."
The storm grew and a tornado spun up around us. The ground fell away beneath our feet and Rebecca screamed. Sophie yelled out and Loki cursed in Asgardian. All of a sudden the twister vanished and we dropped to the floor. Somehow we were less than a foot from the ground and stood in the middle of the school locker room. A few heads turned our way but most of the attention was on Loki.
