"Georgina," a voice whispered. "Help."
I reached out groggily and flicked on my lamp. My clock said it was three AM in the morning and I had school in five hours time, on the bus in three and a half. My alarms were set, my bag was prepared and my laptop was turned off so I couldn't YouTube at three in the morning. I had been asleep, dreams floating through my head whilst I rested. All of that had been disrupted by the figure stood in my doorway.
"Go away," I groaned, flopping my head back down onto my pillow. The person persisted, creeping forwards and sitting on the end of my bed. I sighed and struggled upright, tugging the duvet away from the person.
"Please," the person hissed. "I've done something terrible and-"
"If you've destroyed my village, Loki, you're dead," I warned, realising who it was. Loki shook his head.
"I haven't," he promised.
"Have you murdered Shaade?"
"No," Loki said after a pause. "No, I haven't done anything to him. Yet," he added under his breath. I kicked him and he flinched.
"Loki, talk or leave me alone," I said grumpily, remembering Shaade's words from earlier that day. On the bus journey home I'd concentrated on meddling with everyone's minds to convince them that Shaade and Loki were not fighting like two wild cats. A headache had started just behind my eyes, head throbbing and powers waning. Eventually I gave up and allowed the bus driver to give the scrapping boys a good telling off.
Loki hung his head. "I've broken something," he said sadly.
"So? I break things all the time."
"It isn't yours. It's Sophie's." My eyes widened as I made the link.
"You haven't..." I breathed.
"I did," Loki whispered miserably. "I broke Melody."

On the bus journey the next morning Loki would not sit still. His face was a pale blue colour and his leg was jigging up and down causing the seats to vibrate. Eventually he settled down and held onto the bag we'd put Melody in tightly.
"So he killed Sophie's cat?" Shaade asked delightedly. "The little robot one?"
"Yep," I said.
"He's dead," Lotte added.
"Deader than dead. Sophie will rip him apart," Rebecca agreed. Loki whimpered and shrank down in his seat. We'd reached the school.

"What do you mean, you broke Melody?" Sophie screamed, animatronics appearing left, right and centre. Loki backed away and tripped over, hitting his head on a locker as he went. Sophie's eyes were wild and her arms were raised, hands balled into fists, pain obviously her only intention. Loki made a wailing noise and slid down the lockers until he was sat on the floor, trembling. Rebecca handed Sophie a flaming sword and immediately I started to affect people's thoughts. My headache had started again, a recurring sensation whenever I used my powers. I'd found my glitch.
"I..." Loki stammered. "I tripped over her and she skidded across the floor, crashed into the wall and just... sort of... smashed..."
"I'm going to freaking KILL YOU!" Sophie roared, swinging the sword high in the air. A finger of shadows flicked out and grabbed it from her hands, extinguishing the flames and swallowing the sword blade. Sophie's head whipped around as her animatronics advanced. There were three gigantic rabbits with sharp fangs, a massive cat that looked suspiciously like Melody, two robot Frost Giants and a slightly smaller but a whole lot spikier dog animatronic. All had razor teeth, long claws and glowing red eyes.
