After leaving the dam the kids flew through the air over America carried by the bronze angle statues. They flew high enough that Percy could kick snow off of the top of a passing mountain. It seemed like they were all enjoying the view. Well all but one of them.
Clark looked over at Thalia and saw her with her eye shut tight and holding on to the angle for dear life. Clark thought it was interesting how she was so fearless all the time except for when she was around heights. Seeing how scared she was Clark reached out and held her arm gently in his hand. He was trying to be as comforting as he could.Clark: it's going to be ok Thalia.
Thalia: how do you know that?
Clark: because I'm here and I won't let anything happen to you.
Clark went to pull his arm away but as he did Thalia's hand shot out grabbing his. Clark was a little surprised by this. Thalia gripped his hand for dear life. Clark gently gripped it back. For the rest of the flight Clark held Thalia's hand trying his best to comfort her.
After a few hours of flying the group finally made it to there destination. There in front of them was the fog covered view of San Francisco. Finally arriving the angles landed at the ferry dock. When they did they ended up scaring off a homeless man. After that the angles flew off.
When the angles flew off the group mines Clark began to talk about how they were going to find some monster. This was the first time Clark had heard anything about it. Apparently this thing was supposed to lead them to Artemis. Clark guessed that was the missing goddess. The only problem was none of them knew where to look.Grover: Percy didn't Apollo tell you to find Nereus?
Percy: yeah I'm supposed to find him and get him to tell me what he knows.
Zoe: old Nereus.
Percy: you know him?
Zoe: my mother is a sea goddess so yes.
Percy: do you know how to find him?
Zoe: yes and I believe are mortal friend can help with this one.
Clark: m-me?
Zoe: come.
The group fallowed Zoe down to the docks. The place was full of homeless people. No one knew why Zoe brought them here. That was until she turned to Clark.
Zoe: alright boy you are going to go and find Nereus.
Clark: b-but I don't even know what he looks like.
Zoe: that's fine just fallow the smell.
Clark: smell?
Zoe: you'll know it when you smell it, now go.
Clark began to walk through the docks. Walking through the crowd of homeless people really made him feel bad. He couldn't help but think about how with all of his powers he couldn't use them to help these people. They needed a different kind of help, one the doesn't involve heat-vision or super-strength.
Clark put those thoughts aside for now and continued to look or rather smell. None of them really smelled good but one smelled the worst out of all of them. A homeless guy who reminded Clark of Santa Clause. Believing him to be the guy Clark made his way to him.Clark: hi.
Clark stuck out his hand to the man for a hand shack. The man opened his eyes and just looked at Clark. Eventually he reached out and shock Clark's hand.
Clark: my names Clark. Are you by chance named Nereus?
When Clark asked that question the mans eyes widened. He apparently must have been Nereus because he immediately tried to take off. Before he could though Clark tighten his grip on Nereus's hand.
Clark then began to act like he was struggling even though he had a solid grip on Nereus's hand. As they struggled Clark couldn't help but think that Nereus seemed pretty weak for a God. Clark hasn't fought any gods before but Nereus didn't seem to strong.Clark: please we only have a few questions for you.
Eventually Clark wrestled Nereus to the ground. That was when the others came running up. Percy was the first to get there and helped hold him with Clark.
Clark: p-please answer are questions.
Nereus: one question per capture.
Clark: w-what?
Nereus: that's the rules.
Clark: o-ok.
Clark then turned to Zoe giving her a head node to ask the question. She understood and turned her attention to Nereus.
Zoe: where is the monster that Lady Artemis was hunting?
Nereus just smiled showing off his mossy green teeth.
Nereus: that's easy, it's right there.
Nereus pointed to the water at the edge of the docks. Nereus then turned into a gold fish and jumped into the water. Percy believed they got tricked until they all heard a mooing sound. The same mooing that Clark and Percy heard at the dam. When they all looked there in the water was some sort of cow serpent.
Percy: oh Bessie not now.
Hearing that Percy knew the monster lead into a big discussion that revealed a lot. Apparently Bessie was the Ophiotaurus and by sacrificing her entrails you could gain the abilities to destroy the Gods. As they were talking about this Clark could see that Thalia gained a particular look in her eyes, a look Clark has seen before.
It was obvious to Clark that Thalia was tempted by the thought of power. He was about to say something when he heard the sound of guns and men not to far away. Looking he managed to see all the men making there way to them.Clark mind: we don't have time for this.
Clark using his super-speed and ran around knocking everyone of them out. Even there leader with the bad spike hair cut. After that he ran back to the group. To them it was like he never left. But when he got back Thalia still had that look in her eyes.
Percy: we need to protect Bessie.
Clark: Percy's r-right.
Clark then kneeled down next to Thalia and began to pet Bessie.
Clark: t-that kind of power could lead to a lot of innocent people getting hurt.......
Thalia then looked over at Clark. Clark in response looked at Thalia.
Clark: plus such an innocent creature doesn't deserve to die.
What Clark said seemed to snap Thalia out of her daze.
Thalia: Grover why don't you take the Ophiotarusus back to camp half blood to keep him safe.
Grover: what about you guys?
This is when Zoe stepped in.
Zoe: we will go after Lady Artemis.
Percy: you know where she's at?
Zoe: yes
Percy: where?
Zoe: home.
