We all went back down to the real part since the game was getting boring.
' I never knew high school parties were this dry.'
' Maybe you aren't in the mood.'
' So much for dressing up and wasting my time.'
' I have a bad feeling about this party though.'
' You sure.'
' I'm sure. My guts are always right.'
' Your guts full of shit. I'm the only one with a good gut feeling.' I snicker.
' You are the worst.'
' It's like everyone found a plus one today.' I groan.
' Is my baby feeling lonely?' She laughed.
' I'd rather be lonely than like anybody.'
' Males are beasts.' I nod my head in approval.
' Bye, I'll update you on everything that happened. Okay?'
' Okay. I'm still tired.'
I was behind Shanti who is busy walking with Ben. I feel like a third wheel in this shit, everybody getting a bae, and here I am, still scared of attachments just like my brother. We are never really going to get married, I vowed to myself that if I ever liked a person, I'll move back to Nigeria.
The party was still in full-blown swing. Noah was busy talking to Asreal about something when a boy passed by him handing me a red cup. I'm not stupid to drink it even though I was psyched to drink earlier.
This party is a turn-off for me.
I gave it to my brother. The room was stuffy with all the heat, sweat and noise coming from the teenagers. I took off the sweatshirt and tied the sleeves around my waist. I saw Noah give me the stink eye when I raised my head. I had to remove my jacket at home when Nosh threw his sweatshirt at me that's why he was giving me that eye
" Don't give me that." I passed him. He rolled his eyes " This place is stuffy and the sweat is thick. Do want me to faint."
I walked away trying to find the door just to have a good time. Everyone is having a good time, unlike me. It's not my scenery that's all.
I finally found the door. As I stepped outside to breathe in the fresh air, I felt at peace. I went to lay on the grass using Noah's sweat as a pillow. I took my phone from my pocket going to my playlist. I played ' Middle of the night' by Elle Duhé.
This is my peace.
I was so closed off that I didn't notice someone sitting beside me until they tapped my shoulder. I pulled my plugs in a startled state to see Thiago staring at me with a vape in his hands and a cloud of blue smoke coming from his mouth.
" Hey." I look at the sky.
" Why are you not joining the party?" He asked me. I slightly turn my head to see him facing the streets, the lights touching his face. His side profile is amazing. He has jet black hair which is in a bun, sleepy grey eyes and few beards. He is handsome I'll give him that.
" Not my kind of thing." I tried my best to shrug in my position.
He nods his head taking another hint " Did you even want to come here?" He looked at me after blowing the smoke away.
" To be honest, no." I sigh.
" Why did you come?" He turns back to the streets.
I sit up and bring my knees to my chin " I felt obligated to. I've watched a lot of movies where they always have a party after a game and even in books too." I was picking at the grass.
" Movies?" He repeats what I'm saying to know if I'm sure of what I said.
" Isn't that what happens." I turn my body and then cross my leg " Is it not a tradition." I asked him slightly tilting my head.
" That doesn't mean you should sacrifice your own time for the shit. " He rolled his eyes.
I do not know why I'm being civilised with him right now but talking to him is calming. It feels like I'm talking to my therapist.
" Trust me; I've sacrificed more than this in my life."
He pockets his vape and nods his head " We all make sacrifices even when we don't want to. Life is shitty." He rubs his hands on his face.
" Shit happens for a reason and the world didn't come with a manual you just have to do what you have to do to make it in the cursed place." I was starting to have memories going on in my head when I said those words.
" It isn't a fair world. Just a cold world." He chuckled while looking at the moon. " isn't the moon beautiful?" He smiles at the moon.
" Yes."
" She glows the brightest amid stars that are bigger than her. She is so gentle only coming with a smile on her face to brighten up the darkness in the night unlike the sun who burns us trying to take her spotlight but she remains gentle and always smiles." I don't understand what he said but I liked it.
" Everyone is a moon until the sun becomes overshadows them." He was still smiling at her.
I was feeling sleepy suddenly. I felt comfortable around him, he has this gentle sage vibe around him. My eyes were droopy " Can I lay my head on your thighs?" I was scared.
He gave a gentle laugh before nodding his head. I slowly made myself comfortable. I felt him put Noah's sweat over my body.
This is peace.
