Noah took me home after the game and during the ride, I asked myself why on earth I did something that stupid. My mind went back to his face and how he stared at me made my skin crawl. I felt like I was standing in front of a menace.
I got down the car, took my keys from my bag and opened the door. I have other important things on my mind other than some crimson fool. I went to the kitchen hoping to see my mum but she wasn't there.
"MAMA!!" I know she said I would stop shouting when I call her but I'm my mama's daughter.
" MUMMY!! WHERE ARE YOU!!??" I know where she was but I just felt like annoying her. I walk into her design room and I was greeted by a stink eye from her as she holds a scissor and a needle in both her hands.
I raise my hands " Woah! Calm down Jamal don't pull out the nine." I sat in front of her sewing machine.
" Oma pa mi omo yii. Kilofe to n kpariwo oruko mi bi aja to ti geje ( Youll be the death of me this child. What do you want from me that is causing you to shout like a dog but you.)" She hissed at me.
What I'm about to ask her is a big step for me " Mummy, you know I love you so much" She looks at me with a sceptical eye "You're so beautiful and we all know you got your looks from me." I wiggle my eyebrows at her.
She drops everything she's doing as she clears her throat and removes her glasses " It's the other way round and you look just like your ugly ass dad." She rolls her eyes.
Then why did she marry him if she knew he was ugly " Why marry him then?"
" I like men with ambitions." She had a look in her eyes as she said that. " We both know he isn't ugly, woman." I ick at her lovesick eyes.
" Tell me what you want and stop the asodun ( sweet talk)."
I take a deep breath before letting it out here goes nothing " You know how I'm independent right, even though I depend on you and daddy." She scoffs mumbling 'independent my ass'.
" So... I want to start working. I'm a big girl, I'm already 17 and I want to experience the outside world like Noah and Shanti."
" Let me hear if what you want to say is stupid or not." She moves her palm in an upward gesture, urging me on.
" I saw this bookstore in the mall 2 weeks ago. It made me feel comfortable and I was at peace. They had a vacancy spot and I want it."
She sighs " How are you sure that is not already occupied."
" I pray mum." I grin at her.
She frowned her face deep in thought before she shakes her head and sighed " I'll ask your dad when he comes this evening." She looks at me with a smile " Okay?"
I respond with a grin before hugging her. I hope that dad approves of it, I want to see the bigger world. I've learnt from my irreversible mistake and I regret them but I still want to enjoy my teenage years even though I've lost 4 years from them. I have only this time to my birthday to enjoy my time and somehow tick off the bucket list that I make as I live.
I went back to the kitchen to see Noah eating porridge. A smile creeps on my face as I stare at him and he gives me a disgusted face " You look creepy. Stop I'm losing my appetite." He groans.
