☾ sea spell ☽
a novel dedicated to those lost in their own storms, those at one with the ocean, and those that refuse to push magic from their minds.

Entered into WATTYS 2015
A rising tension. A rapidly-waning moon. Shady, skeptical brings. An underwater dynasty, crumbling at the fists of rebelling forces.
Nestling just off the rocky, tourist-swamped coasts of Guadeloupe lay an aquatic, mythological universe, isolated and out of human reach for seven quiet years.
Until one sticky, summer night, when restless Lanakila Maurs and a thrashing hurricane unknowingly fell prey to magic lurking beneath the surface.
As much as she likes to persuade herself into thinking otherwise, Lana still hasn't moved mentally past her mother's unexplainable disappearance seven years ago. However, a newfound tail, a cunningly sly cast of characters and a perplexing Spell tattooed on her arm just might do the trick- that is, if the world under Guadeloupe isn't but a dream.
________________[ABOUT THE AUTHOR]
Hey, I'm a teenaged writer who's hooked on photography, indie and alternative music, the ocean, and frozen yogurt. I love diverse, crazy books with crazy titles. I'll march eagerly into any antique or herbal store.
________________[BEFORE YOU READ]
This book isn't a teen fiction about a hot blonde teen who turns into a mermaid and meets a hot teen merman werewolf hybrid guy.
This book has evolved tremendously since I first strung the word's Sea and Spell together and scrounged up tropical baby names to create Lanakila. It's different, and outside the margins. So if you find enjoyment in books like that, please give mine a shot.
This is the first official, serious novel I have written, as well as my first story on WattPad. I'm far from a professional author, and the version of Sea Spell you're reading at this moment is only the rough draft. Which means that, whilst rewriting this book [or merely moving on with the rough draft and deciding I no longer like an aspect of my book], I may change locations, character names, plot parts- nothing that you read in the rough draft is set in stone. If you find yourself agitated by authors that change or edit their books often, I'd suggest putting Sea Spell on hold in your library until the final version is being written to avoid conflict. Thank you.
_________________[FACTS/INFO TO ELIMINATE CONFUSION]
• Lanakila is pronounced lay•nuh•kye•luh.
• Guadeloupe is a real island in the Caribbean- however, this story doesn't picture it to be geographically correct [a result of my leaping into this book versus doing my research].
Instead of envisioning it as a series of islands, I have invented the world of Lanakila on the largest, mainland island of Guadeloupe. It is one city, called Guadeloupe. When rewriting this story, I may look at some maps and select a city on one of the minor islands for this book to take place on.• Squidlips is a real restaurant in Florida.
• There is foreign language as dialogue in this book as part of the mystery. If you can't read it, don't look it up online- you'll find out what it means later.
• all fables, such as the tale of The Widower, are made up by me with some characters borrowed from Greek Mythology.
_______________[IMAGES/VIDEOS IN THIS BOOK]
All images (including cover image!) are from social media and I take no credit for them. The cover image is a saatchi work of digital art.
Usually pictures at the beginning of a chapter will relate to something in that chapter.
