seven - destruatur

.

Lancelot dipped the tip of his arrow into the torch, watching as it caught aflame. His bright blue eyes fixated upon his target. Carden's words echoed through his mind.

-

"The Fey, Druids and Wolf-kind have blended into the wood, my son, but even demons must eat. We know they forage off the farms of the Minotaur, so if they will not reveal themselves, then we will starve them out. Burn their fields. Scourge their farms. Until they panic like cattle to the slaughterhouse."

-

Taking a deep breath, Lancelot raised his bow and fired into the fields.

He watched as fire ravaged upon the area, smoke filling the sky as embers glowed - the fames danced like a wild flower devouring everything in its path.

He lowered his bow and turned, mounting Goliath and riding away.

What had he just done?

.

"Did you honestly think that I would let you ride south?" snapped Gawain.

"I have to go to Merlin," justified Nimue, "This was my charge and I will see if fulfilled."

Gawain scoffed lightly, "To give him your Sword of Power?"

"It was her dying wish, Gawain," Quirina snapped, walking up to them.

"Lenore could not anticipate the course of this war," Gawain argued, "That sword could help us protect our farms. Carden's Weeping Monk is torching our food supply. And those tonsured devils are burning our valley, and we must respond."

Quirina shifted uncomfortably at the mention of Lancelot, "He's not Carden's anything."

Everyone looked at her.

Just then, Arthur walked up to the group, "Hello." He was dressed and read to leave.

Gawain looked him up and down, scowling, "What's this?"

Nimue turned to Arthur, "I was just headed for you."

Arthur gestured to Gawain, "You found something blocking the road?"

Kaze and Drazhan walked up, "Green knight, Shadowsmith," Kaze snapped, "The council?"

"There may be paladins on those mountain trails, or thieves," Gawain told.

"You're going on mountain trails? With thieves?" Drazhan inquired.

"I will accompany you, meet me by the trailhead to the north," demanded Gawain, "I'll bring horses."

"That's not necessary. I'll escort her," countered Arthur.

"I do not need an escort!" Nimue snapped.

"A riding companion then," Arthur suggested, he turned to Kaze and smiled, extending his hand for her to shake, "I'm sorry, we haven't met."

Kaze hissed and Arthur withdrew his hand.
