A Legacy

The howl did not go unheard from above. As glow once again appeared this time as black and gold making the sun and moon for once be level with one another. This surprised Rina and Gwen. Because there stood their mother and father. "Wow." Both wolves say in awe as they knew both their mother and father we're dead but there they were as spirits right in front of them. "Well don't act so surprised the mother wolf says as the wolves nod wagging their tails.

 "Mother, Father, you're here, but why did you lie to us?" Gwen asks sadly as the father sighs, "It was what was safest for all of us. You see Ash's and Breeze's mother is my sister. And when she asked me to take care of them, we did." The father says. "Wait so we're cousins?"  Rina asks as the father nods, "Yes, that is correct." The father says with a nod, "So we really aren't part of the prophecy?" Gwen asks in confusion as the mother nods, "Oh you are and a bit more too. You see your powers go back further than theirs. And yours are also a bit more important. You're part of a long line of Day and Night protectors. Part of a legacy that has been for generations. And I think it's your time to rise to the occasion, and become the protector of the day and the night."

With that a yellow light glowed on Rina, and a black one on Gwen. After the light fades a mark remains. Rina's is yellow with a sun, and Gwen's is black with a purple outline of an owl. "What are these?" The twin wolves ask in confusion. Looking at the marks on their right front shoulder. "These are the marks of the day and Night Guardians; it shows just who you are, and should give you more respect. You are old enough to wear them with valor and to protect the elements you hold in your paws with great caution. It's your time to rise." The mother wolf explains making both wolves gape but nod. 

"Remember, When four paws glow as one. This horrible time will be done.Everything will be at peace when the light makes the darkness retreat." The mother and father say in unison before disappearing. "Well that's a lot to take in." Rina says looking at the mark on her shoulder. Light Guardian, I kind of like the sound of that. How about you Gwen?" Rina asks her twin who nods, "Yeah, and I also like the title Night Guardian." Gwen says as Rina nods, "Me to wait… when light makes the darkness flee." Rina says making Gwen cock her head. "Um… Rin, what are you thinking?" Gwen asks slowly as Rina smiles. "We are part of the prophecy. Gwen we need to go catch up to our sisters!" Rina starts to run off, but Gwen holds her back. "Hold on a sec Rin. They don't want our help and they made it clear. Plus they're going into New York. I mean Ash and Breeze could pass as dogs, but we sure can't." Gwen states worriedly.

"Don't worry sis. With our powers we should be able to manipulate a cover. And I don't care if they want our help or not. They need us and as the Light Guardian and Night Guardian I think it's our job to protect them." Rina says as Gwen shook her head, "Rina think about it, we don't even know what a light and night does yet. I mean our parents literally just told us about it." Gwen says trying to talk some sense into her sister as they honestly had no idea what they were doing. 

"Dad says we need to have valor. Now come on let's go," Rina says as Gwen sighs, "Fine, but I'm warning you I have a bad feeling about all of this." Gwen says as Rina rolls her eyes, "Stop being a worry wart and come on!" Rina shouts out as Gwen finally starts moving, "Alright I'm coming, I'm coming Gwen says. As she runs to catch up to Rina.

"There's no way we're going into New York. We look like wolves. Even if we're half dogs!" Ash tells Miracle and Marvel for the third time that she didn't want to go into the city as it was dangerous. "I know but they need our help please!" Marvel barks out desperately as Ash shakes her head no. "No we can't. It's too dangerous!" Ash growls out as she hates the idea. "Ash, they need our help please,please let's do this for them. We're part of the prophecy and as part of the prophecy we should end this." Breeze says as Ash sighs, fine, but I don't like it. I have a very bad feeling about this." Ash says.

That's when they heard a whisper in the wind saying, "Have courage," and, "Stop this." The four half wolves let the wind blow their fur before starting to run again. They were getting close. So close that the two wolves could smell gas and oil."Yuck, I remember why we don't come close anymore. This city stinks! " Breeze says as Ash nods, "Oh yeah definitely. Now lead the way brothers, and do it quickly. Before Breeze and I decide we want to go back to the wood where it doesn't stink." Ash says seriously, making the two white dogs gallop faster as they didn't want that to happen. 

Miracle and Marvel were so glad to be back after the long journey; all they wanted was to come back home where Olive, Zeke, and Michaela were, but that was when they stopped again. They couldn't possibly take Ash and Breeze to Olive's house. That was too risky especially with Angelina around. Zeke's and Michaela's house should be safe, but they had Beverly who would totally freak. If she were to see the two wolves. That's when another idea popped in their heads, Drea! 

Drea was Michaela's work partner and she had just enough room for the two wolves. Not to mention she was kind and wouldn't ask too many questions. So they turn the other direction and start running. Hopefully Drea would accept them for now.
