Chapter 1 - In quarantine

Hello, welcome to the first chapter of ( JFTL ) I hope you enjoy and I hope I can update you as often as possible.

Jay POV

So here I was sitting at the kitchen counter with my older brother and sisters alongside me whilst my mom stood across from us trying to digest the news of the country going into lockdown. At first, when I heard about the virus I wasn't interested because it had not yet affected the country in any way and that was two weeks ago.

I still can't believe how much has changed during such a short period. I still am in shock as to how this has happened but what can I do but follow the rules that have been established by the government. Although just the thought of not being able to go to school and be free to relax in the comfort of my homemade me sigh in relief.

"So no more school for me and tee?" I asked questions about how we are supposed to learn while quarantining. We all just sat there avoiding each others gazes.

   The oldest of us Kennice Williams pinched her nose as she moved to fill a cup of water. I could tell that she was just as stressed as mom because she has to go to school but the difference is she has to work and pay for own her schooling cause we can't support her financially.

  Gabi Allen the second oldest just graduated last year so she is worried that she can't go unto tertiary schooling now and fulfill her dreams of becoming a writer.

  Then there is my older brother Teejay Linton he is a year older than me and we share the same father except for the girls they both have separate fathers explaining the last names.

"Yea I guess no more school for you guys." My mom said staring straight through the kitchen window her eyebrows creasing as she went deep in thought.

    I could tell she was tired from working a full day's work and stressed about the whole situation. I couldn't do anything to help her with the financial problems we are struggling with because as you know I am just 16 and still in school (well not anymore I guess ) and my dad hasn't been helping since he moved out to his new plaything.

  "Well so what are we gonna do now?" Ken said directing her question at mom making her snap out of her dreamland."I mean how are going to manage when we aren't able to work?".

  " If I am being honest here I don't know we just have to wait until the government release his statement tonight." She said sighing before she moved from her spot and sat down in front of us and said " You guys go ahead and clean up until dinner is ready."

  I moved out of the kitchen with tee following behind me and we didn't even realise that ken wasn't behind us until we reached the bottom of the stairs and we heard whispering coming from the kitchen making us halt in our steps.

  When I turned around I saw Tee looking at me we both nodded our heads and then tiptoed to the entrance of the kitchen to eavesdrop on the conversation. Normally out of the two of us I am the responsible one but at the moment I didn't feel like being responsible.

  When we reached we heard ken whispered "Mom you need to get some rest I will cook something for us to eat."

   "No hun it's okay go clean up."  Mom said trying to get ken up stairs but knowing ken that is one hell of a task as she is very stubborn.

  "Mom I know you haven't been eating well since lately you need to rest I will cook and I will make one of the boys run the bath for you I know you are tired I can see it." She said her voice dripping with concern for moms health.

I mean I have realised the changes in her body she is thinner than usual and it bothers me but knowing mom she is very hard headed and won't listen to any body so trying to convince her to eat more would be impossible. However with ken around that is a different story.

  " Ok fine but soon as I am finished with my bath I am coming ba-" ken cut mom off before she could finish her sentence and said " Nope no way on earth."

"Fine" mom said before sighing in defeat and started moving to exit the kitchen but before she could reach the entrance we were already up the stairs and on our way to our rooms.

As I was about to enter the shared bathroom that is between my room and my brothers own my phone that was on the bedside table pinged with notifications I just put it on silent and went to take a bath before my brother comes barging in.

  After 40 minutes in the bathroom I came out in a  Blue Nike shorts ,plain white tee and socks I fell unto my bed and began to wonder if I should check who those notifications were from but knowing I barely had any friends I didn't want to but curiosity killed me and I decided to check.
   
  When I checked I realised that some were from the school however there was a message from a group called "Quarantine Buddies" with a bunch of emoji and 25 participants I was confused as to who would have add me here but then I recognized Tee's number and I decided to exit the group but as I did that Tee only added me back we went back and forth for 5 minutes until Ken called and said that dinner was ready.

  I was about to exit the group again but decided against it and went downstairs only thing on my mind is to find a way to keep out of Tee group.

When I reached down I saw him at the table smirking he knew that I had an absolute hate for groups so if it's war he wants then so be it.
