"Hey... Kat, you awake?" She pulls the blanket over her head causing me to chuckle. "Kaaaat, there's food"

Her eyes snap open and she sits up, looking around the room

"Where?"

"In the kitchen, I ordered room service"

"I slept here? I thought I was in Alex's room"

"You were snoring and I think he would've covered your face with a pillow if I didn't bring you in here"

"At least I don't snore as bad as you"

I scoff  "Yeah alright, go get your food"

She smiles, wrapping the blanket around her and hobbling off to the kitchen.

"They make huge pancakes holy shit!"

I chuckle and sit down on the couch, flicking through the television channels. After searching for a minute or two I settle on the news.

Kat plops down next to me holding her plate piled high with various foods. As she eats she kicks her feet up on the coffee table. "I'm not as sad as I used to be, but I'm not as happy as I wish I could be..." She pauses "So what do you think I should do?"

"I think you should just focus on a few small things instead of trying to fix everything at once" I take a few grapes off her plate and shrug "Just a little advice, pal to pal"

She nods, staring into the tv. I look over at her, studying her short messy hair and sleepy eyes, her baggy sweater and rosy spotted cheeks.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't think she was gorgeous. She's such a sweetheart and oh man what I wouldn't do for her. But she loves Jack. Looking back up at the tv I let out a small sigh. Amazing how I'm the one taking care of her, not him.

Oh what am I saying, I'm helping her because she's my best friend. I don't get any 'bonus points' just for being a good person. I love her as a friend, and I'm taking care of her, and that's okay.

"Hey" She pokes me "What are we doing today?"

"Umm... I don't know. Maybe we can go out somewhere?"

"Like where?"

I shrug "Wherever you wanna go"

"Or we could just stay here and watch movies all day," She smiles "And sleep"

"That's good too"

"HOWDY HEY STRANGERS!" Alex shouts, bursting into my hotel room.

Kat and I jump up, she yells "ALEX YOU DOUCHE! YOU ALMOST MADE ME PISS MYSELF!"

He chuckles "That's really nasty. Anyway what are you crazy cats up to?" (i feel like alex ironically says 'crazy cats' a lot idk)

I point to the tv, halfway through 21 Jump Street. He nods "Well you're not doing that anymore. Put some shoes on we're getting food"

Kat groans "It's cold out, and I'm not wearing makeup, my hair's a mess, I don't have-"

"Oh my god" Alex dramatically waves his arms through the air "Fine. Do you guys want anything?"

"Burgers" I say

Kat nods "Lots of burgers"

"You're sending me, Rian, and Jack out in a cold, foreign land, to track down a place that sells burgers" He sighs "Well, if we're not back in two hours please call the police"

"Yeah, okay. Bye guys" I shut the door.

"Hey, Zack"

"Hm?" He raises an eyebrow, not looking away from the television

"It's been an hour and a half, they're not back yet. Should we be worried?" I ask jokingly

"Probably" He sighs "They've most likely been arrested. Public nudity, destruction of public property. It could be any number of offenses"

"Do you think this is a good idea?"

"Them venturing off on their own? Definitely not"

"No not that... I'm talking about Jack and I possibly getting back together. Do you think maybe we shouldn't do this again?"

He shrugs "Kat it's up to you whether or not you think you two should be together"

"I know but come on you have to at least have an opinion about it"

"You want my opinion? Alright I don't think you two should rush into a relationship. Maybe if you can work up to it then it would be better. It doesn't have to be an immediate thing, take more time for yourself to get better first. That's if you're even gonna try a relationship again"

"But there's no way I'm gonna end up in that situation again... What if I can't trust him to not hurt me like that?"

"If you find that you can't trust him then you probably shouldn't be with him. Either way it's a risk" He crosses his arms "You wanna know what I would do?"

I nod

"I would just try to be friends for a little while, see how that works out. And if it's going well then maybe you can start talking about going back to where you guys were"

It made sense. It'll be difficult being 'just friends' with Jack but y'know what, it's better than getting your heart broken.
