I take a deep breath and think about my reply. The thoughts quickly turn to a blind rage as I shout "Oh, you still love me? Really Jack! Well gosh isn't that fucking great, you still love me so now everything's fine right? I should just be so thankful that after all this time you still love me" I spit out the mock enthusiasm like venom "You can't just invest all your time into fixing someone, then leave like that, expecting them to be fine. And what the fuck makes you think that I would still love you? What would make you think I'd even want to be around you? I haven't seen the people I love in almost two years because of you"

He sighs "Kat, I'm sorry I shouldn't have blurted that out and I definitely shouldn't have left. But you have to understand that I was scared too-"

"Y'know, Jack, it doesn't matter how many times you apologize, your words don't mean shit to me anymore" I cross my arms and shake my heaf "You say you were scared, I was twenty-two, suicidal, and expecting a child who wouldn't have even seen their father. That baby that was growing in my stomach... Its blood is on your hands"

"I'm sorry. I was young and stupid"

"Yeah well none of that matters now does it?" Tears stream down my cheeks "It's over and done with. Never gonna happen again"

He tries to pull me into a hug but I push him away, my hands trembling "Kat, I'm so sorry"

"I need to go" His face drops, watching me leave. I walk into the hall and wipe my eyes, attempting to keep myself from looking the complete mess I really am.

A beep comes from my phone:

"Lobby in 5 -Zack"

I slide the phone back into my pocket and sigh, heading down the hallway to the elevator. As I step inside the metal doors, a little girl with golden pigtails looks up at me and frowns. She lets go of her mothers hand and tugs on the sleeve of my sweater to get my attention.

"Why are you sad?" Her small voice asks, big brown eyes staring up at me

"I ran into an old friend who I really wish I hadn't met" I sigh, glancing up at the girls mother who offered a small look of sympathy.

"That happened to me" She's missing one of her front teeth, leaving her with a small lisp "She was really mean and she ripped one of my drawings"

I smile slightly and nod "What was it a drawing of?"

"I drew a dog for mommy"

"I'm sure it was amazing"

She nods "It was my bestest" The elevator doors open and as I step out, she says "Please don't be sad"

"I'll be okay," I smile "Take care"

"Bye" She waves eagerly. The doors close and I take a deep breath, brushing my hair out of my face. Out of the corner of my eye I spot Zack leaning against the doorframe.

"You okay?" He asks as I walk over to him. I nod and follow him outside. "He didn't hurt you did he?"

"No, of course not," I shake my head "I mean he's an asshole but he'd never hit me or anything like that"

He nods, looking around awkwardly "What did he say?"

"I don't know. He gave me some bullshit, saying he still loves me, that he's sorry. He thinks I'm an idiot"

"Y'know I was gonna make you get all dressed up, drag you to a fancy restaurant, drink overpriced wine with you" He chuckles "But now I think we should just hang out and watch some movies, maybe get Chinese food or something"

"Yeah. That'll work"
