CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT
✧
-: fourth year :-── IN WHICH THEY ARRIVE
AT HOGWARTS. . .
"Hey - Potter."
Marlie stopped midway down the corridor, instinctively reaching for her wand as she recognised the voice, slowly turning back towards the direction that she came from. Her eyes landed on dark clothing, a stark contrast to the pale skin and blonde hair.
"Draco. You're still alive." Marlie swallowed, her usual tone applied no matter what had occurred in the forest surrounding the campsite for the Quidditch World Cup Final. "Shame, I hoped that you ran into some Death Eater dumb enough to kill the son of L-"
They were lucky to be in empty area at the end of the carriages, where the comparments were closed off down the hallway and all that remained was the decorative wallpaper and the door into the open carriage, because Marlie did not want people to suddenly see Draco Malfoy slapping a hand over her mouth and simultaneously backing her up into the corner.
"What did I say about you not saying anything about my father." Malfoy asked, and he took a step back upon seeing her hand move. "You're not punching me again."
"So close." Marlie let out a sigh, shaking her head. "Shame, I think you deserve it ten times over, but whatever you say. What do you want then?"
"To remind you not to say anything." Draco replied, seeing the tiniest waver in Marlie's hardened expression. "What did you say?" He snapped.
"Don't get so defensive." Marlie swallowed. "They were talking about your dad.. and I said you helped me. Because I'm not in the habit of lying to my brother and friends. Is that all you want? I have't seen Dean since before the match and I would like to make sure he's fine."
Malfoy rolled his eyes. "I heard about Crouch's elf finding your wand and it was that which produced the Dark Mark. And they accused you and your brother, of all people."
"How d'you know about that then?" Marlie's eyes narrowed. "I don't remember that being in any of Rita Skeeter's articles."
Draco scoffed. "That woman? She's useless, I don't read anything she's written unless it's of something of my interest. And given that it's usually to do with useless Ministry employees, there is a severe lack of any interest at all." Marlie stared up at him, wondering just when he talked about himself. "No, my father is close to the Minister, it's easy to find out things that way."
"Well, in that case yes, I lost my wand. And yes, whoever it was used my wand to conjure the Dark Mark. I got my wand back and now I'm stuck here with you. Is there anything else?"
For a moment, Malfoy looked as if he had completely forgotten why he had gotten up after her. "Don't you dare say anything about my father. And I don't need you defending me either." He turned and stalked bnack towards his carriage, Marlie staring after him.
"Fucking weirdo." The Potter girl shook her head before turning her back on him, far too confused by the entire situation and deciding to push it to the back of her mind as she made her way through to the carriage she was originally aiming to go for.
