CHAPTER FIFTY ONE

-: fourth year :-

── IN WHICH DRACO
TURNS INTO A FERRET

. . .

Quite frankly, despite the double Divination in the afternoon, Marlie didn't exactly hate the first day back. As always, it was a shock to the system to return to such a strict schedule - especially following the freedom they had faced during their stay with the Weasleys - but it was somewhat enjoyable.

Once Trelawney got past the whole birthdays thing, she had doled out several very complicated charts that would eventually map out the alignments of the planets at the time of their births. For Harry and Marlie, they could easily work together, only being born several minutes apart had it's perks at times.

But when they both managed to get two Neptunes and Ron made a certain comment that had his entire table as well as Seamus and Dean sniggering in the background, Lavender Brown made a comment about something to do with Uranus. Boys being boys, a joke was made and this one, Trelawney did hear - and would end up so bitter that she set them a very complex and detailed chart-related analysis homework to be in the very next week.

And thus, when the twins and Ron joined Hermione on their way down to dinner that night, their conversation almost entirely revolved around just how much homework they had been set that day.

"It's evil, pure evil." Marlie rolled her eyes as they walked along the corridors. "Did she want me and Harry to be born smack-bang in the middle of December? Is she wanting us to lie? And why does she suddenly have super-human hearing? It's selective, I swear she never takes notice of anything,"

"Miserable old bat." Ron nodded bitterly as they joined the crowds descending the staircases back to the Great Hall for their meal that evening. "That'll take all weekend, that will."

"Lots of homework?" Hermione asked, voice bright as she fell into step beside them and looped her arm under Marlie's, so not to get dragged away from the group. "Professor Vector didn't give us any at all!"

"Well, bully for Professor Vector." The Weasley grumbled.

Harry grinned. "He made a Uranus joke to Lavender." The twins watched as Hermione shook her head disapprovingly. "It was actually quite funny, but not so much when Trelawney was stood three feet away and gave us this." He shook the pages of parchment that their Divination professor had handed out to go with her instruction of homework.

"Here." Marlie held out her hand, taking them and stuffing them into the bag bouncing on her hip, closing the material flap as they reached the bottom of the Grand Staircase. The Entrance Hall was already busy with people waiting for the large oak doors to swing open, and soon enough the four of them found a space nearish to the front.

But their peace and quiet - which really wasn't quiet at all but instead filled with the complaints on their homework and the low murmur of everyone else awaiting entry - wouldn't last so long.

"Weasley - hey, Weasley!" They didn't even need to look at the speaker to know who the spiteful tone belonged to, but when the four did, they were faced with Draco Malfoy, flanked by Crabbe and Goyle on either side.

He was definitely avoiding looking in Marlie's direction and she was honestly rather disappointed. He really was such an idiot. Even after arguing with her he couldn't look her in the eye. Proud bastard. She scoffed, muttering something to herself and looking away, shaking her head.
