- September 2021 -

She moved her hand to her wife's thigh.
Maya had been bouncing it up and down for the past three minutes.
The OB already knew that if the test wasn't showing the results yet, it probably meant that it was negative.
She didn't want to crush her wife's hopes, not yet.
After all it was their very first attempt, maybe it would take a little longer for some unknown reason.

The beep that came from the stick pulled Carina out of her thoughts.
She felt Maya's hand move to squeeze hers tight.

"Here we go." Maya said while going forward to catch the stick from the sink.

What if that God above wanted to actually gift them with the joy of a child after only one try? Carina always thought that if it happens to those couples that are not even trying, it could happen to them.

Maya kept her hand on the bright square that would show the result and moved it in front of them, so that they could see it together.
She smiled towards her wife once more before taking the hand off the stick.

- August 2021 -

When they entered the clinic, Carina felt a shiver down her spine, both due to the cold air of the building and the pressure and slight anxiety for what they were about to do.

She also felt her gourgeous wife squeeze her hand to bring her back.
Maya took off her jacket to place it on Carina's shoulders. Every little thing Maya did for her wife, always made Carina feel so loved, purely loved.

She scanned the room to understand where they were supposed to go. Before that moment they always talked through the phone with the assistant of the doctor or the doctor himself, and came to meet him just once but not in his clinic.

Maya led her towards one of the blue dark seats scattered around the hall to make her sit.
Then she walked towards the assistant to tell her that 'Bishop-Delucas had arrived'.
The glassed woman thanked her and immediately took a phone to communicate it to the doctor in his office.

Coming back, Maya stopped herself in front of a poster which showed a little fetus with a bright smile in a belly. She laughed before turning around to point it to her wife, only to find Carina looking at the white floor tiles, fingers playing with her rings for stirring.

Maya walked towards her and knelt down between her beautiful chocolate eyes and the floor she was looking at.
She lifted her head with two fingers under her chin so that she could finally look at her straight in the eyes.

"Tell me what you're thinking please."
She knew that whenever she'd talk to Carina like that, the most honest answer would finally come.

"What if we try but it doesn't work?" She had been holding it for almost a month, right after they came back from their honeymoon.
They searched through thousands of clinics to find the one that would respond to Carina's knowledge in the birth field. And when they did, it was immediatly so true and possible that every fear made it's way in Carina. She witnessed families that were able to have a baby at the millionth try, or even never.
What if for her own age they wouldn't have so many chances? What if they found out that she wasn't fertile at all?

"I can hear your thoughts." The blonde stated looking at her wife's frowned expression.
"What if we just give it a chance, baby? Without thinking the worst."

Carina knew Maya was right, but still...she could picture herself with a baby sitting on a rocking chair in the livingroom, under the bright sun of Sicily during a free summer time.
She felt like she needed it to happen, with no other option available.

"We're gonna do this together Carina."
Maya was so good at bringing her back to reality, making her feel like they had a chance, for real.

On the other hand, Maya was still so unsure. They lived their honeymoon sometimes wandering and dreaming about running toddlers in their apartment and Maya tried to picture herself the reaction she could have.
And she always had the feeling that for her, deep inside, it would always be bad.
