"Yeah, no shit I can speak English. What, you think all Koreans grew up here?" He scoffed. I couldn't help but smirk. I found his anger mixed with his accent a bit funny.
"Why are you smiling? You were literally crying two seconds ago. I'm beginning to think you're crazy. Guess I'll leave you here then~" He gave a smug look as he began to whistle and walk away. I had to snap out of it. Did I forget I was alone?
"NO! Wait. Please don't go. I'm literally lost." I yelled in desperation as I reached my hand out towards him. He laughed and turned back around, but just stood there.
"And what's in it for me if I decide to help you? It's 4 in the morning, dude. I just ended work. I would rather get home and sleep right now."
He was right. But no way was I giving up.
"I'll... treat you to a meal or something if I get my stuff back. Look, I can't just sleep out on the streets tonight. I already booked the place, I just need to..." I trailed off. Shit. I forgot that unless I had my phone with me, I couldn't contact the Air B&B owner.
"Nevermind. Thanks anyway," I gave up and picked myself up to walk to the convenience store.
He followed behind.
"Look. You're helpless, I assume you lost your stuff, and now you're gonna sleep on the sidewalk unless a great hero who is also extremely good looking if I do say so myself, comes and offers to help you." What was he saying? I turned around to face him and raised my eyebrows. It was clear from my face that all I was saying was, "Really?" .
"Yeah. Well his name is Jake. This is the part where you shake his hand." He reached his hand out for a shake.
"Huh. Well, I'm Melia."
Still doubtful, I shook it anyway. We walked to the convenience store together and I just told him all that happened. Maybe Korea wouldn't be too bad, after all.
