It was already 5AM. Jake had sat with me at the tables outside the convenience store as we ate some ramen and triangle kimbap. I had to explain my long journey to Korea, and he explained his."Woah, you're a TRAINEE?" I was really shocked. Though I could agree he did have the looks of an idol, I never imagined the guy who just picked me off the street to be training under the same company as BTS. I was a huge fan of BTS since they debuted when I was a kid.
He just briefly nodded and changed the topic. "So you really have nothing, huh? No money, no way to contact anyone..." He looked up at me and into my eyes. The sudden eye contact surprised me. I looked down and avoided his gaze, embarrassed. "Well, yeah... but I really don't want to bother you... I can just sleep here and use a payphone tomorro-" Jake rolled his eyes and put a finger to his mouth, signalling at me to shut up.
"You can just sleep at my place. I have an empty bed since one of my roommates is in Japan," he mumbled as he poked at his ramen. Confused at first, I slowly processed what he just said. I mean, it was just a separate bed, right? And I kind of began to trust him. We had been talking for over an hour now. What could possibly go wrong?
"Okay. Fine. But we are heading to the police station first thing tomorrow, please" I gave him a pout. He pretended to need to vomit out of disgust, but he was really laughing.
We both packed my stuff up and he helped me drag my luggage. Apparently his apartment was just up the hill from the convenience store, which explains why he had only got off at this last stop.
When we arrived, he slowly tapped the card and pushed the door open for me, gesturing for me to go in. "Ladies first," he said, smiling. I rolled my eyes with a smile and walked in.
"So, how many people do you room with?" I asked, curious at the pile of clothes and the heaps of shoes everywhere. Surely he didn't only have one roommate.
"Shoot, we forgot to clean up. Pretend you never saw that, sorry. No one's really supposed to come over... but uh, there's 7 of us living here." Jake tried to hurriedly put the clothes and shoes away.
He really is a future idol, I thought to myself. And this wasn't his self bought apartment. It was probably his dorm. From what I could gather, trainees can't have people over at their dorms, and I thought Jake could get into trouble for it, but I had nowhere else to go so I didn't say anything.
"So, are you other mem- I mean friends, all asleep?" I asked, peaking my head into the hallway trying to get a glimpse of the bedrooms.
"Well, technically they're all not here tonight. They'll be here tomorrow, though. The rest of my friends are Korean residents so their parents all live here and they usually go back home on the weekends. Riki's the only Japanese one. He'll fly back next week so you'll have a bit of time to get your stuff back." Jake explained. I could see his eyes get a little teary at the mention of parents. I guess he couldn't go back as his family was in Australia. I wanted to give him a hug but I felt like it was too soon.
"Hey, since you're alone anyway, you should be glad you now have me, the Melia Chang as your roommate. I'm super fun," I flipped my hair and smirked. Jake gave a small laugh and helped me move my stuff to a drawer in the dressing room.
"Dude, the sun is rising already. Didn't you say you wanted to go find your stuff first thing in the morning?" Jake pointed out the window. He was right. The sun was rising faster than I thought it would, but I barely even noticed through all my panic.
"Yeah well, I still want to go..." I trailed off into a yawn. "Maybe you'd want to take a nap first instead?" Jake laughed. I nodded slowly and he showed me to the beds. 7 bunk beds, that's kinda odd... But he showed me to mine and it was the top bunk over his.
Closing my eyes, I prayed that we'd be able to find my stuff that day. I didn't want to have to rely on this stranger for too long.
