After the crying came the anger. Lily could no longer block the truth from her mind. It was there in black and white. His dirty little secret. The words of love expressed for another.
She had laid there for what seemed like hours. Clutching at her heart, pulling at her hair and screaming. The tears on her face now dried and clung to her skin. She felt numb. No feelings of love, could she stop loving him, how did one just turn off their feelings?
Lily decided to go and shower. As she stepped in the shower the hot water hit her body in an instant. It was soothing, like a hot summer rain. Washing all the days grime away, the dirt that had filled her head. All from a few words on a tattered page.
Later that afternoon Lily was sat in the booth at the sunset restaurant. It was a quaint little place. The building dated back to the 1800s and it had preserved its original decor well. The bar was obviously new, made from black marble, its smooth finish and the backdrop of the lit glass where the optics were gave it a welcoming sight. The door opened and a lady of medium height stepped in. She had on sunglasses and ruby red lips. Dressed in a dark blue two piece, jacket and skirt she had an hourglass figure, Lily decided she was very classy, much like in the old movies she loved to watch with Dan.
The lady looked around the room and settled her gaze on Lily. She made her way to the table.
'Lily?' She asked.
Lily nodded and offered the seat opposite her.
'Hello, as you can guess I'm Diana' she smiled.
Lily smiled back, as Diana took off the sunglasses she could see blue puffy eyes. The poor woman had obviously been crying, a lot.
'What would you like to drink, would you like something to eat' asked a concerned looking Lily.
Diana shook her head.
'I don't think I could eat anything, but a drink, yes that's definitely what I need. '
Lily knew what she meant, she also hadn't eaten most of the day, but today she felt like she could eat anything.
The bubbly waitress appeared at the table. She had brought two menus with her.
' can I get you both a drink'
'Yes, can I get a whiskey and soda please, Lily, what will you have? ' asked Diana.
Lily laughed, this Diana clearly loved a drink, and as she surveyed the woman opposite she felt out of her depth. This woman was clearly used to getting what she wanted.
'Oh erm, can I just have a white wine please? '
The waitress nodded and walked away.
Lily didn't know how to broach the subject of why they were here.
'So Lily, do you know the woman in the picture I sent you?' asked Diana.
Lily squirmed in her seat, so they were just going to get right on with it.
'I can't say that I know her, but, oh it's so crazy' blurted out Lily.
Diana reached for Lily's hand to coax her to go on.
'You should probably know that I haven't been well, what I mean is..' Lily stopped talking as she saw the waitress out of the corner of her eye.
'Here's your drinks ladies, are you ready to order yet'
Diana shook her head, the waitress looked at Lily.
'Yes, can I have the salmon linguine please' She asked.
