Here comes the heartbreak

The morning after, Dan left for work. Lily was in a dark place once more. He had confessed all his sins to her, now she either forgave him again or she left. Lily felt like someone had punched her several times in the stomach and she felt sick. How could he have kept it all from her. Diana had lied, was there anyone she could ever depend on again, anyone she could trust. Lily didn't think so. Lily kicked off the covers and laid there naked, the cool air from the fan blew cool air over her pale skin.. she no longer wanted to face reality anymore. She could block the world out, let the darkness consume her once more.

Dan walked into the room but he did not smile at the sight of her naked body. He knew he had betrayed her and he thought that part of their lives were over. How foolish he had been to think Diana would just leave them alone.

Dan sat on the bed and stared into space, all he could see were the black and white roses on the wallpaper, the colours all mingled into one. His heart was heavy and he knew Lily was feeling the same, if not worse. He had broken her once again.

'Lily, I have to go' he whispered.

Lily looked at him, her eyes puffy and red from all the tears she had cried. How was it possible to keep on crying, your heart in a million pieces yet you were still able to breathe?

Lily simply nodded, she had no words for him. She would not comfort him or make his heart light. For now she knew she had to look after herself. Either that or she would spiral deeper into the darkness.

'Lily, I'm so sorry, I never meant to hurt you' he whispered once again.

Lily got up out of bed, she walked to the door and stopped. Looking at him she spat out 'but you did anyway' She walked to the bathroom and turned on the shower. A moment later she heard his footsteps on the stairs, he walked down them to the front door and left. Lily screamed under the shower, she cried and cried, but the crying stopped. Lily was now angry. Angry at herself, angry at Dan, but mostly she was angry at Diana. The woman who had pretended to care. The woman who had come between them. The woman who tainted their love. As Dan confessed his affair and how it had started, he had set up business meetings with Greg, but he never made it to the meeting, it was always Diana. One day Diana met with Dan in his office, as he offered to take her coat she smiled. Those white teeth against the ruby red lips.  As Dan took off her coat he realised all she had on was a matching set of lingerie and red high heels. Dan had shrieked her name and pulled away from her.

'What are you doing? '

She smiled at him once more, slowly stepping towards him, her stiletto heel scratching the hard wooden floor. He had backed himself into a corner, in a matter of seconds she was pressing her body against his. This had been the start of their affair. It had lasted three months  Dan could no longer hold onto his guilt and had told Diana it was over. Later that day he had confessed to Lily. He played down how long it had been, he didn't tell her who or where, until last night, where he broke her heart all over again.
