Carina pov"Hey," I said as I entered the attending's lounge
"Hi, you okay?" Teddy asked from where she was slumped down on a couch.
"Yeah, I just need a break," I sighed as I flopped down next to her on the couch after a long surgery.
"Are you going to the awards dinner on Saturday?" Teddy asked me, both of us staring at the wall.
"Crap. I forgot about it, I need to ask Maya if she'll be my date," I said, turning my head to look at the woman next to me.
"Ah yes, how is it with Miss sexy blonde firefighter," she asked jokily.
"Really good. Great actually," I said, debating whether to tell her the full extent of my feelings.
"Tell me more," she whined, "You are the only person I'm friends with that isn't married, I need gossip!"
"I think I'm in love with her," I murmured.
"What!" She sat up quickly and looked at me, "Carina, that's amazing!"
"I don't know if she feels the same way though," I said glumly.
"The only way to find out is if you tell her," she shrugged, "And you should probably invite her to the awards dinner or you'll be going solo," she joked.
"I know, I'll ask her later," I said as my pager went off, "Thanks for the advice," I called as I ran out of the room to check on a patient.
..
I got to Maya's for dinner at 6:30 and rang the doorbell, thirty seconds later I was greeted by Harley's smiling face. "Hi Carina, come in," she said joyfully.
"Hi Princess, you okay?" I said as I hugged her lightly before making my way into the kitchen to Maya.
"Yep, just doing my last chemistry homework before summer," she replied excitedly.
"Finish school on Wednesday right?" I asked, taking a seat next to her at the kitchen island.
"Yeah, I'm so excited. And we're going on vacation in August," she said excitedly.
"Really? Where are you going? Mom hasn't mentioned it," I asked, confused as to why Maya hadn't told me about their vacation.
"We're going to California because some of my mom's family lives out there," she explained while filling in the last few answers of her chemistry questions, "I thought mom would have told you. She'll probably tell you later."
"Maybe. Where is your mom?" I asked, suddenly realising that Maya hadn't appeared.
"On the phone; something about a fire in another station, I'm not really sure. She shouldn't be long," she told me.
"Ah, I see," I said, still confused about why Maya hadn't mentioned their vacation; I would understand if she wasn't ready for us to go together but I at least would have liked to know about it.
"You should ask her about vacation, it would be fun if you came with us," Harley said quietly, obviously trying to avoid Maya hearing. No sooner had Harley finished talking and Maya came running down the stairs, "Ask her," Harley whispered before running up to her room.
"I'm so sorry, baby. I had a phone call that went on way longer than I expected," she said, sounding panicked as she pressed a kiss to my cheek.
"Don't worry about it," I said, not being able to speak with my usual enthusiasm due to feeling like Maya was having second thoughts about us while I was in love with her.
