"Hey, can I ask you a question?" I asked, poking my head into Harley's room.

"Of course," she replied sweetly, patting the space on the bed next to her. I sat down and pulled my hands out of the pocket in my hoodie to reveal a black box that I held out to her. She took it from me and snapped the lid open, immediately gasping.

"It's for your mom," I said nervously watching her reaction to the diamond ring she was holding.

"It's so pretty."

"But I wanted to ask what your opinion was before I proposed to her," I said.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I don't want you to think everything's going to fast or you don't want me to marry your mom," I shrugged, tucking my hands back into my hoodie while she gawped at the ring.

"Of course I want you to marry her! She's the happiest when she's with you so I want her to be with you forever," she said, rubbing her thumb over the diamond as she rested her head on my shoulder.

"Really?"

"You already live with us so it isn't even going to feel that different. And maybe if you got married she'd let us get a puppy," she said, eyes wide.

"I mean I do make her happy but I'm not a magician Bambina," I giggled, knowing how badly Harley wanted a dog and Maya didn't.

"A girl can wish," she sighed, slumping back into my body and linking her arm with mine. "I love you Carina, and I think my mom would be stupid not to marry you."

"Aw thank you Bambina. Will you help me with the proposal?"

"Definitely."

"Where's Carina?" I asked Harley as I came into the house. She looked up at me with a suspiciously smug look on her face.

"Check your room," she said, looking back down at whatever she was drawing.

"Do you know something I don't?" She just shrugged.

I went upstairs to my room and found an empty bedroom, of course. I looked around and saw a pink note inscribed with Carina's beautiful handwriting: 'hi Bambina. You're wondering where I am right now... don't pretend you're not. Meet me at the restaurant where we had our first date at 6, I have something planned. And as usual, we will be back by 9:30 for Harley, I promise. Xx C'

I could sense her humour through the paper which made my heart warm. I knew I'd have to dress up but I had no idea why she had randomly planned something on a Saturday night.

I slipped into my favourite navy blue dress with matching heels. The dress hugged my sides and complimented my eyes and hair.

I went downstairs to Harley and kissed her cheek, causing her to look up, "You look pretty, Mommy," she said.

"Thank you, Baby. I assume you already knew that I was going out."

"I sure did. And Carina assured me that you'll be home for bedtime."

"Definitely. I'll see you later, love you," I said as I left the house and got into my car.

When I arrived at the restaurant I immediately saw Carina's car so knew she was there. I went in and was led to a table where my beautiful girlfriend was sat looking as beautiful as ever, "hi my love," I said, moving to sit opposite her.

"Hi, glad you saw my note in time. I was worried you were just going to snuggle on the couch with Harley and I'd be here alone," she nervously laughed.

"Harley can't keep a secret like that," I said, holding her hand over the table.

"Very true."

"Ready to go?" Carina asked once we were finished.

"Yep, do you have something planned?"

"I certainly do. Let's go in my car and then I'll bring you back for your's," she said, standing up and offering me her hand. This was the first time she'd stood up so was my first opportunity to admire her red dress that was similar to the style of my own.

We pulled up in the parking lot of a huge flower shop that I didn't even know existed. Carina got out of the car and came to open my door and offered me her hand once again. She led me into the shop which was beautifully lit with golden lights and had flowers scattered across the wooden floor boards. "This is beautiful," I said under my breath, looking around at all the varieties of flowers and vases.

"Not as beautiful as you," she replied, pressing a kiss to my cheek and leading me further in. We stopped in the middle of the room and Carina pulled something off the table at the side and then came back to stand in front of me. "I'm getting nervous now."

"Why? I don't understand what's going on," I said, looking around for some sort of clue.

"All will become clear, don't worry," she said before taking a deep breath.

"Maya Bishop, my true love, my one and only, my best friend and partner, I love you more than life itself. Which is a scary thing to say when we've known each other for just about a year. But it doesn't feel like I've been getting to know you, it's feels like I've known you forever and loved you forever. I'd like you to know that it's not a habit of mine to talk to random women in bars but when I saw your dazzling blue eyes and shiny hair I just couldn't resist. And thank god I talked to you because I have fallen madly in love with you and, of course, your wonderful daughter who I would never be able to live without," she finally took a breath and loosened her hand from around mine. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, grow old and never leave your side. I understand that your job comes with an element of danger, something I never hope to happen to you but it also makes me think of the here and now; I know that I want to be with you forever so why wait because tomorrow isn't guaranteed. So..." she knelt down on one knee and I slapped my hand over my mouth, the tears that were forming in my eyes finally pouring down my cheeks. "Maya, will you marry me?"

"Yes! Oh my goodness, yes!" I said, pulling her up into a soft kiss that I never wanted to end.
