Maya's pov
July 1st
Saturday

It has been pretty slow at work recently, I haven't even been on one call per day it's been more like one per week, which is great for when Harley is here because there's no risk of leaving her when we're called out but it's also insanely boring. But today there was news of a three alarm structure fire and the beginning of shift that we could possibly get called out to once it gets to five alarms. It would mean that instead of working half a shift until 2pm I would most likely be out all day and possibly all night too and I had nobody to look after Harley. Carina was the only person I could think of that could possibly look after Harley that wasn't a firefighter so I had to call her despite them barely spending anytime alone together.

Phone call:
C: "Hi Baby, you okay?"
M: "Yeah but I'm stuck at work and Harley is at home by herself. As much as I don't want to bother you, I was wondering if you would be able to sit with her for the day?"
C: "Of course I can. We can do something fun. When do you think you'll be home?"
M: "I have no idea, if the fire in town gets to five alarms I could be gone all night."
C: "Don't worry, bambina, I'll stay with her until you get back, as long as it takes.
M: "Thank you so much. I lo-. I have to go, bye."
C: "Bye."

I couldn't believe I almost told her I loved her. But at least now Harley wasn't going to be on her own, I needed to tell her that Carina was coming over.

Maya: Hey Buggie! I'm stuck at work all day so Carina is going to come over and take you to do something fun. I'm really sorry for ruining our day, I promise I'll make it up to you. I love you and I'll see you when I get home xx
Harley: Okay, don't worry. Stay safe, I love you xx

I got to Maya's at about 11am so I rang the doorbell and the door was answered by Harley with messy hair in her pyjamas. "Hello," I said joyfully.

"Hi, come in. Would you like a drink? I was just about to have some orange juice," she asked sweetly.

"I'll have some orange juice too, if that's okay?" I said.

"Yeah, that's fine," she said as she got the juice out the fridge and poured two glasses. "Any ideas what you want to do today?" I asked her.

"We don't have to do anything, I don't want to be a hassle," she said softly.

"No way, we are going to do something fun. We could go out for lunch? Or literally anything you can think of," I told her.

"Lunch sounds good but I'd need to get changed," she laughed.

"Okay, no rush. Drink your juice first and then you can get dressed," I told her.

An hour later, Harley came downstairs in black mom jeans and a cute pink shirt with white high top converse. "Ready?" I asked her as she jumped off the bottom step of the stairs.

"Ah, I need my jacket that's upstairs," she said as she ran back to get her jacket.

When she came back down the stairs her mood had completely changed, she looked sad and panicked as she was clutching her phone tightly while looking at the screen. "You okay, bella?" I asked her softly.

"My mom," she said shakily while pulling the neck of her shirt away from her body.

"What about your mom?" I asked, starting to panic as well.
