"That was kind of out of nowhere," I comment with an embarrassed smile, touching my face where whispers of his kisses remain.
"Ah, sorry," Goldie says sheepishly, lowering his head with an apologetic grin.
"No need to apologize!" I flick on my blinker and turn onto a different road. "I just wanted to know where it came from. I'm not complaining in the slightest."
At my comment, he scratches the back of his neck and looks away, seeming to be embarrassed. I glance over at him curiously.
"I just... you look so cute in normal clothes, especially since I'm used to only seeing you in your uniform..." A flattered smile sneaks its way onto my face at his compliment. "A-and watching you talk to that stranger and get so excited when she agreed to come, all because you know it'll make Chica happy... it was really sweet of you and it reminded me of how good of a person you are," I want to argue and say that I'm not a good person, just easily excitable, but I don't want to interrupt, and I don't want to seem like I'm fishing for more flattery. "And above that, it reminded me of how much I love you..."
My face gets warm again. Love, he uses that word so freely, and yet I still get butterflies whenever he says it.
"Ah," I reply, more so as a way to fill the silence than to answer him. I'm too flustered to think of any other way to respond. I pull the back of my hand up to my cheek in an attempt to cool it down, but the attempt is futile as it just seems to make my cheek warmer. How embarrassing is it that I still turn so red over simple compliments and words like 'love'...
"Are you okay?" He asks. A giggle escapes my lips as I nod 'yes', humored by his obliviousness.
"Let's, um, let's just turn on some music," I offer, turning the volume up on the radio. Goldie seems to know the song since his ears perk up and he starts humming along.
We perform radio karaoke all the way back to the restaurant, taking turns belting the high notes and failing miserably, just to make each other burst out laughing. It's something my mother and I did together on long car rides, so it feels nice to know that that doesn't have to be a thing of the past. I can still perform terrible car karaoke with other people and have just as much fun doing it.
I should visit her and dad's graves soon.
When we make it back to the pizzeria, Goldie and I wait for the lady by the front door. It doesn't take long for her to get there since she left right after us.
She walks up to us. "It's been so long since I've been here..." she reminisces. Her expression holds many emotions: nervousness, dread, sorrow, acceptance. "I haven't come here since Abigale died."
This must be hard for her. I couldn't imagine being in her shoes right now. I suddenly feel guilty for asking this of her. I glance at Goldie to find him wearing an expression that says the same.
"I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it's been years but I'm sure it's still so hard to go on without her," I say softly in an attempt to comfort the lady. I know how hard loss is, and I don't think I'll ever get over losing both of my parents, so I can assume it's the same for her.
She nods to say I'm right, then starts walking inside. Goldie opens the door for her and me (what a little gentleman) and follows after us.
She just orders a salad so Goldie and I do the same. Monkey see monkey do, I guess? We grab our bowls and go find a seat near the animatronic stage.
I check my phone for the time. It reads 2:53 pm. I hope this lady will take longer than 17 minutes to eat, because the animatronics are about to take their 10 minute break, and Chica won't be able to see her mother if she's in Pirate's Cove.
We eat our salads, taking turns talking. She asks us more about Chica and how we've been able to see her and communicate with her, and we answer her questions with as much honesty as we can. Of course I can't tell her that Goldie, too, is a phantom, or that there are several others and Chica is friends with them all. That might make my story less believable, and I don't want her to think I'm a psychopath.
After a few minutes of eating our salads and talking, a girl in a yellow dress and with yellow hair walks up to us.
Chica?!
"H-hey, (y/n)! Hey Goldie!" Chica says with a nervous smile. The lady turns her gaze to Chica.
"Uh, hi..." I saw awkwardly, copying Chica's nervous smile. "What brings you here?" I ask in a weak attempt at sounding casual.
"I work here, silly!" She says, playfully punching my shoulder.
"Oh, haha, I didn't know you worked today," I answer. Why would she talk to us?! This is going to make things more challenging now.
"So... who's this?" Chica asks, gesturing to the lady.
"Abigale?" The lady asks. My heart beats faster with nerves and worry, and Chica's expression falls. She obviously didn't expect her mom to recognize her, or at least she didn't plan this far ahead.
"...uh..." she mutters, not taking her eyes off of her mother but not knowing how to respond. I pray that whatever happens, it goes smoothly. But if i want it to go smoothly, I might have to take matters into my own hands.
I open my mouth to speak, but Chica cuts me off.
"Uh, no. My name's... um, Summer. I'm Summer, nice to meet you," Chica says with a warm smile. I let out a breath of relief as Chica offer's her hand to shake. "And you are?"
The lady hesitantly takes Chica's hand and shakes it. I can only imagine how surprised she could be to find someone that looks like her deceased daughter, especially in a place her daughter loved.
Several emotions play across her face before she answers. "I'm Lilith."
Chica smiles, then reluctantly retracts her hand and takes a step back. "I know I just said hi but we're kind of busy today so I have to hurry and get back to work. It was nice seeing you here guys," she gestures to Goldie and me, "and so nice meeting you Lilith." She waves with a big smile before speed walking back to pirate's cove.
"What a nice young girl. She looked just like Abigale." Lilith mumbles. I don't know what to say, so I remain silent and Goldie does the same.
After a few seconds of awkward silence, Lilith speaks again. "This has been lovely. Thank you kids for inviting me, but I'm afraid I must go home now." She steps away from the table and grabs her purse, swinging it over her shoulder.
I quickly rise from my chair. "Oh, uh, thank you for eating with us. And I'm sorry if this was..." I fish for the right word "...awkward, and difficult for you."
She waves her hand with a chuckle. "No, no, not at all. This was... nice. Thank you two for inviting me. I think this was good for me."
I smile as Goldie stands up too. "It was our pleasure," he says charmingly. "I really hope we get the pleasure of meeting you again sometime."
I'm still getting used to his newfound confidence, but it's not a bad thing in the slightest. It makes me happy for him, and I find it oddly attractive.
We wave at her one more time before she leaves, then I quickly drag Goldie to Pirate's Cove to check on Chica. I don't know how she's handling seeing her mom again. What if her wish wasn't all she thought it would be? What if her real wish is something else? What if she couldn't figure out how to stop her body from leaving? What if she chose to leave and is already gone?
When I pull back the curtains, I'm met with a disappointing discovery.

Hey all
Quick note, I won't be able to get chapters out super quickly. I won't be able to do daily updates, every other day, and probably not even weekly updates. I'll try my best to get chapters out as quickly as possible but you'll still have to be patient cuz I have school and other things to work on
Also it's so funny when I read angry comments cuz I don't even have to check to know they're about Katie in chapters 9 and 10 lmao
But yea anyways
Thanks for your patience and for continuing to read this story!
We're close to the end >:)
