The Team sat around in the memorial garden talking. It was a small talk, quiet, as they all waited for someone to address the elephant in the room. No one wanted to be the first to call attention to it, leaving it up to the senior Team members to start.
Wally sighed, "I feel stupid. He trounced me without even lifting a finger."
"You did speak before you thought," Artemis added, "But you have to consider what Red Hood was saying. We've never gone against people like, Deathstroke or Ra's Al' Goul. Hell we can't even last five seconds in the ring with Canary. How are we to be able to fight people like that?"
Kaldur nodded, "Batman told us, before the argument, some of us will be shadowing other members from other teams. Maybe being part of two teams. Hopefully we will all keep an open mind and learn from them."
Wally groaned, "I still acted like a shit. In front of all of them no less. And Nightwing is like sixteen right? He doesn't look that old."
"He's nineteen actually." All of them turned to the new voice. Canary stroud up and sat down in the small disfucinal thing they called a circle, "Seeing what just happened, I'd think you're all curies to who Nightwing is."
They all nodded, awaiting eagerly for the story.
"We, the League, were still working out of the mountain at the time when Batman brought him in. It was before Wally became Kid Flash even. Nightwing was the first partner to any Hero. He'd already worked for a few months with Batman before the man brought the child to the Cave. Clark and Diana were furious. They ripped into Batman. It was an all out shouting match. It wasn't until the boy walked up to Clark and told him, 'If you don't like me fighting, than let me show you how I can fight'. And the boy did. A nine year old was able to go toe to toe with Superman." Canary saw the shocked looks and heard a few murmurs pass.
Kaldur leaned forward, "Why wasn't he introduced to the rest of us?"
"At first it was because Nightwing, the first Robin at the time, had a fraile mind of sorts. He'd been through hell and we were trying to get him past it. Oliver startled him once and got a knife to the knee. Hal woke the boy up from sleeping and got judo flipped. Barry speed up to him without warning and got a knuckle to the nose. Everything just startled him. When Wally came around we all agreed that Robin shouldn't be around him. Robin could have hurt you or worse, killed you."
Wally gulped, "What's he like now?"
"He's better. Big spaces with lots of people make him stressed. He doesn't knife or punch people anymore if that's what your thinking."
Kaldur stored that information for later, "Than why not when the team was formed? By my estimate, he'd be around thirteen. Four years after you all worked with him."
"That was it. He worked with the League. Everything the League knew, Robin knew. A year after that, he grew restless under the Batman's wing and flew the coop so to speak. He started the Titans. He was leader of the Titans. Batman also got a new partner. The second Robin."
Artemis snorted, "How many Robins are there?"
"Six actually." Canary saw Artemis's eyes bug out, "Now, as Nightwing was leader of the Titans he changed from Robin to Nightwing. He was leader for a year before coming back to Gotham. The second Robin was killed by Joker. Nightwing took losing his little brother hard. For months no one knew where he went or what he did. The soon to be third Robin tracked him down, trying to convince him to come back and be Batman's partner. Batman at the time was, reckless, to put it mildly. Borderline suiside in my eyes. When the third Robin couldn't get Nightwing, he became Robin."
Canary laughed slightly, "The boy is smarter than Batman. More stubborn too. Take note, all Robins are more stubborn than Batman. They had to be, to become Robin. It wan't long after that a girl was taken in and the third Robin gave her the mantel as he was off to the Titans. Both Nightwing and the Third Robin, now Red Robin, returned to see that Ra's Al' Goul revived the Second Robin and sent him to kill Batman."
"Wow, that something messed up right there." Jamie chimed in.
La'gaan shrugged, "I can see where that anger would come from. The second Robin trusted Batman to be there but in the end he was killed."
Canary nodded solomly, "The Lazeruse pit amplified that emotion and Ra took advantage. Nightwing and Batman were able to snap the second Robin out of his red rage but he still has a bone to pick with Batman. He's currently, Red Hood. By the time the fifth Robin came, the fourth changed names and became Spoiler than to Batgirl, now back to Spoiler. The fifth and current Robin is a child of both Taila Al' Goul and Batman."
"You said there were six." Conner cut in confused, "Where's the sixth?"
Canary grinned, "In Gotham there is a gang called the Robins Gang. They-"
"Go around helping Batman any chance they get." Artemis finished, "One of them got noticed by the Bat?"
"Yes. Signal is what he's called now. He was intelligent, quick on his feet, and athletic. Batman had been watching the boy for a while, leaving him be. Until Signal's parents were tracked down by Joker and killed. Than Joker blow up the building, Signal still inside. He survived but activated his meta gene in the process. Batman took him in after that. He's considered the sixth Robin."
"WHY HAVE NONE OF THESE PEOPLE JOINED THE TEAM!" Wally barked.
"They joined the Titans and made their own Teams." Canary sighed, "They wanted away from Batman when they went off to find themselves. The Team was still part of Batman."
"Why not introduce themselves?" M'gann asked, "It seems like they didn't care about our team."
Canary nodded, "We gave you missions and work we couldn't do. We couldn't be involved in. Nightwing was our true, covert operative. He was our spy. All the stuff we gave you guys as information, either came from Nightwing or another Bat-family member. As for why they never introduced themselves, you have to ask them."
Kaldur nodded, "Can you tell us about these mentorships with other teams and Justice League members."
"Right." Canary clapped her hands togeather, "I got the list right here." She pulled out a sheet of paper and looked at it, "Alright, here we go. Tigress, your first on the list, you'll be partnering up with the Birds of Pray.... Welcome to the group." Canary gave Artemis a grin, "I remember when your mother was on the team."
Tigress perked up, "My mom was in it?"
"Yes she was." Canary moved to the next person, "Wally... Wally, you get to join Titans East. With some of the older Titans. Next is Superboy, Conner, you'r going to Titans West."
"Wait, what's the difference?" Wally asked.
Canary grinned, "Troia, the first Wonder Girl, is the Tower Leader of Titans East. Red Robin is the leader of all Titans and Tower Leader of Titans West. Now, M'gann, Batman thought you'd benefit with work with Flash, for both of you I suspect." Canary looked down again at the list, "Looks like both Beast Boy and Impulse will also be going to Titans West. As for La'gann, Batman asked that you work with.... The outlaws? I'm going to double check that, Hood would skin you alive in a second."
The others nodded in understanding.
"Now the last person on the list is Kaldur. You'll be working with... Nightwing." Canary blinked slightly, "There's no way Wing agreed to that...."
