Real Life

"What is it?" Dela asked, her worry increasing by the second.

"Um, your Dad and I were thinking, and we really didn't want to tell you but..."

"But what Mum?" Dela lowed her voice to a whisper, her eyes beginning to water.

"Dela, honey, your Dad and I are going to get a divorce," Dela's mum said, tears starting to stream down her face.

"What!?" Dela raised her voice, pain evident.

"Well your mum and I have been having some issues lately, and we didn't want to worry you in case we resolved our issues. But as of lately, we've mutually agreed to divorce. Not on bad terms though. We just don't work as well together as we used to."

Dela couldn't manage any word from her mouth for a minute. Until finally she let out a loud sob. 'Why had this happened so suddenly?' she thought over and over in her head. Dela was beyond confused with shock, sadness, anger.

Her mum rushed over to her to hug her, "Sweetie, we didn't want to hurt you."

"But you did! Why?" She cried out.

Her dad now spoke up, "The past year, whenever your mother and I said we were going on a date, we were going to couple's counselling. Like your mum said, we didn't want to hurt you."

All Dela could do though was cry at those words.

"But don't worry, we are going to split up days where you go to each of our places. Though I still need to get a place myself, so for the time being, I'll still be here," her dad smiled slightly.
