We slept leaning against the door and when we woke up, our backs hurt like hell.

"Why did we think it was a good idea to sleep against a door?" I got up and stretched my back. Dad was still passed out from last night.

"We didn't." Lexie got up and put a smile on her face. That was how she was. Once she was done crying, she was done dealing with it. She was going to be happy and smiley for the rest of the day. "Come on, let's make some breakfast." Lexie made me pancakes and toast and I ate double my plate.

"Lizzie, don't eat so much, you'll get a stomach ache." I rolled my eyes playfully. "I'm a doctor, Lex. I know what's good for my body and all that stuff." Once Lexie went upstairs to shower, I went to my room which thankfully no longer stunk of scotch. I grabbed my white shirt and blue jeans and headed to the hospital with Lexie.

"Hey, look at that! Bailey's the new chief resident!" I showed Lexie a picture that one of my nurse friends, Jess sent me.

"Oh, good for her! Sad for Callie though." I nodded my head and we spent the whole car ride talking about random things that happened in the hospital.

Lexie and I arrived at the hospital with barely any time to change into our scrubs since Dr. Yang wanted to get a head start today. The interns, Dr. Yang and Dr. Hahn met outside a patient's room. She didn't even let us talk but I didn't mind.

"His incision is healing nicely. No erythema or purulent discharge. He'll be monitored and we'll try weaning him off the drip once his meds are maximized. After discharge, we expect him to follow up in the cardiac clinic." Once she was done, I thought Dr. Hahn would applaud or something.

"There are five other people here, Yang. How about letting one of them talk?" Dr. Yang looked back, seeming to forget about us while I just looked elsewhere, hoping to avoid this awkward conversation.

"Uh..." She looked at each one of us unimpressed. "Mr. Talbot's cardiomyopathy is unusually complicated, that's all."

"You know, you could take a cue from Dr. Stevens. She knows what's going on with her patients, and she's inclusive." All the other interns, including Lexie looked happy with Dr. Hahn for putting Dr. Yang in her place while I prayed for something to interrupt this absolutely delightful conversation.

Each of our pagers beeped and I whispered under my breath. "Thank the fates." There was a huge bus crash with a bunch of high school kids. We got assigned to Dr. Shepherd along with Dr. Karev and Dr. Stevens. There was a girl inside the room as well, who I'm assuming is his girlfriend.

"What's your name?" Dr. Shepherd asked the boy who had a paper cup on his eye.

"Danny." He winced.

"Hey, uh Danny I'm gonna take this off so I can have a look, ok?" Dr. Shepherd took the plastic cup off, to reveal a pencil stuck in his eye.

Both my and Lexie's eyes widened in panic but I immediately calmed down. Doctors are supposed to remain calm or else the patient will panic.

"Man, high school really does suck." Dr. Karev said with a disgusted look on his face.

"It was that jerk Sully and his stupid friends!" Danny started to get angrier as we lifted his head up.

"The driver kept turning around, telling them to shut up." Danny's girlfriend said.

"I'm just drawing a logo, and suddenly, I'm upside down."

"And the pencil went like, all the way in Danny's eye." His girlfriend looked really scared.

"Yeah I can see that." Dr. Shepherd looked a little scared. He didn't have a plan.

"Should I call his parents?" His girlfriend started fidgeting.
