Freezing Flames

The Todoroki Family

Dear Diary,

This is my first entry. Even though you've been sitting in my closet for the past many years, I never mustered the courage to open you and start writing. I guess I feared that if I did, I wouldn't be able to handle all the horrible memories flowing out of me. But now I see that it's worse keeping them bottled up inside. Everything I'm about to tell you may or may not be exposed in the future. But most of all, everything I'm about to say is completely true. Let me start with my family's introduction.

My name is Kazuya Todoroki, and I'm the third child of the pro hero Endeavour.

My old man's real name is Enji Todoroki, my mom is Rei Todoroki.

I have four siblings.

My youngest brother's name is Shoto. He is fifteen years old. The two of us have always been close ever since we were young, even after Endeavour forbade him from interacting with us. We are even now. He was born as the masterpiece my old man longed for. He was born with the perfect quirk of fire and ice. But that only meant hardcore and intense training from the age of four.

My second younger brother Natsuo, is a college student studying for a degree in medical welfare. He is nineteen. He was born with an ice quirk that our old man claimed 'weak'. He along with me and my other two siblings, suffered from our father's negligence.

I was born before these two. I am twenty years old. I was born with a quirk that was powerful. Too powerful for my body to handle. My quirk is called 'ice-flame'. I can produce freezing cold flames from my body. Flames cold enough to even freeze an opponent's blood. However, the reason I was deemed a failure was because my flames freeze my own skin and sometimes blood if I overuse them. But even though I was thrown aside, I decided to ignore the old man and kept pursuing my dream until I landed a job as a sidekick in Hawks Agency.

My nē-chan Fuyumi, was also born with an ice quirk. But even though dad tossed her aside, she didn't let that affect her as much as the rest of us and now teaches in an elementary school. However I do know that deep down inside, she hides her pain from the past.

My older brother Touya, the oldest Todoroki sibling, is... someone whom I was extremely close to as a kid. Someone I could relate to very well. Since we both had quirks that hurt our own bodies. Touya's flames were more powerful than our father's, but as luck would have it, he was born with mom's resistance to cold rather than dad's resistance to heat. Being neglected and tossed aside really took a toll on him emotionally. I know I said his flames were more powerful than dad's. And I made no grammatical error there.

I wish he were still here.

Me and my siblings have and still do hate our dad for what had happened to him. Before deeming us failures, he'd made us undergo intense and painful training as well. I was forced to activate my flames and fight him until my body gave in. By the time training was over, my bones were chattering, my skin had turned deathly pale as I could feel it freezing from the inside, solidifying my blood.

When Touya-nii had arrived, I collapsed onto the floor, my body deathly white, with many unhealthy blue patches covering parts of my skin. I had been crying, and my frozen tears had sealed my eyes shut. When he saw my condition, Touya-nii started to panic. Then, uncaring for the pain he would bring himself, he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me towards him, igniting his flames. The heat from his flames melted the frost covering my body. But I felt so weak and fatigued that I passed out right in his arms.

Before I completely passed out however, I heard my dad say one thing.

"Another failure"
