Set: what could have been
Age: 22 years oldMarley sat in the bathroom, holding her clenched fists to her face. Her foot tapped against the tiles nervously. A million thoughts ran through her head. What if she was? How would they cope? What would Isaac think? 'Oh god, I forgot about isaac,' she thought. It had been four years since they moved to Italy, and they'd only just managed to live a steady life. Isaac worked three part time jobs whilst Marley worked in a small bakery. They'd spent three years fixing up their cheap apartment and working to pay for a steady living. But this, this was not steady.

Four minutes had already struck on the wall clock thirty-six seconds ago. Half a minute to wait and Marley's life could be change, for better or for worse. She felt sick, like she was gonna leap up from the toilet and display her lunch continents into it. Isaac and Marley had only just got back on their feet. How would they cope with a whole other human? Of course, she'd never doubt Isaac's abilities as a dad for one second, but she did doubt her own. She didn't have one decent parent and knew nothing on how to treat kids. She spent half her childhood raging and shouting at other kids, so how the hell would she handle her own?
Five minutes.
Marley took in a shaky breath and carefully picked up the test. Her hands fiddled with it cautiously until it flipped over to reveal its truth.
Positive.
"Marley, I'm home! I went to that pasta shop, the one with the cute Italian old lady, and got the ear shaped ones," Isaac called out, the door closing behind him. Marley could hear his feet walking through the flat looking for her, but her mind was elsewhere. "Marley? Where are you? Marley..."
Isaac's voice trailed off as his figure fell upon the bathroom door frame. His face fell as soon as he saw Marley. She sat timidly on the edge of the toilet, test in hand. She looked up to him with glossy eyes.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Isaac cooed as soon as he could see Marley's eyes water. He crouched down in front of her and glanced at what the test said. "Marley, look at me."
Marley lifted her head and looked into Isaac's eyes. He seemed so calm for such a traumatic time.
"Do you want this baby?" Isaac asked. Marley took a shaky breath and and looked around hopelessly.
"No, no, please don't, please don't make me decide," Marley begged shaking her head. Isaac was always the person that helped her make up her mind, but she knew that this was something he would make her decided on her own.
"I'm sorry you have to," Isaac said, taking her hands. "Do you want to keep it?"
"What do you want?" Marley asked.
"It doesn't matter what I want," Isaac shook his head, his tone as serious as Marley had ever heard.
"But-"
"If I tell you what I want then you'll just do that, even if it's not what you want," Isaac said, raising his hand and using it to hold Marley's cheek. His thumb brushed her skin gently. "I need you to make up your own mind."
"I-I don't know," Marley whispered.
"Whatever you chose, you know I'll support you," Isaac said. Marley's head dropped, making Isaac frown. "Do you think I'll be mad?"
"No, of course not. I just- it's a lot," Marley said, squeezing his hand in hers. She knew Isaac would never be upset with something she wanted to do to her body. The problem was, she didn't know what she wanted.
"Well, have you ever wanted to be a mum?" Isaac asked, moving his hand away from Marley's face to hold her knee.
"Yeah, when I was little. I still do someday," Marley said, her breathing gradually slowing down.
"And if you were asked to be a mother in nine months, do you think you'd be ready then," Isaac asked. Marley stayed quiet for longer this time, pondering over her make or break answer. Their whole lives could change in a matter of seconds, and Marley didn't even know what Isaac wanted. What if she said one thing and Isaac wanted the other? She would feel terrible that he wouldn't have a say in the decision. But she knew it was her body. Do you think you would be ready?
"Yes."
"Are you sure?" Isaac asked, his blue eyes magnified by the gloss of water. Marley nodded and a smile grow on her face.
"Yes, I'm sure. I want it," she said. "I what this baby."
Isaac laughed and pulled Marley into a hug, wrapping his arms around her waist. She hugged back and hugged his shoulders. He pulled away and looked at her.
"Baby, we're having a baby," Isaac smiled. Marley laughed before he pressed his lips against her. They smiled and pulled away. Isaac dipped his head to her stomach and pulled up her loose shirt.
"Hey little baby," Isaac said to her stomach. Marley laughed again and she's a tear. She'd always wanted Isaac to be a dad, since both of their guardians did a pretty shit job of being parents to them.
"Isaac, it's not big enough yet," Marley said, running her hands through this hair and then down his face. Her fingers brushed his small beard and held under his chin. He kissed her belly before moving back to face her.
"I love you so much," Isaac said. He kissed her lips quickly, and pecked them twice more.
"I love you too," Marley smiled, one more peck. "But you do know this means no more sex."
"Excuse me?"

Yes, I know you can have sex when you're pregnant, I just thought it would be funny to make Isaac think he couldn't.
