Another day

Narrators POV
3 days passed and now It's 3 days before Baileys 3rd birthday. Derek and Meredith woke up that day to the smell of pancakes. "Mm good morning" Derek said kissing his wife's head. "Morning" she replied sleepily. "Seems like mom made pancakes" Derek smiled. Meredith nodded she was still pretty tired. Once she was more awake she felt the urge to vomit yet again. She quickly got up and ran to the bathroom, Derek following behind her. She quickly kneeled down and started emptying the contents of her stomach. Derek was holding her hair back and rubbing her back. "I'm so sorry Mer" he said sincerely. "It's ok it's not your fault" she said catching her breath "it kinda is" Derek laughed Meredith did to and quickly followed with "shut up". Meredith calmed down a bit and he decided to grab her a water. "I'll be back" he said kissing her forehead and leaving the room to grab his wife a water. When he got to the kitchen he was met with his mom. "Hey" She smiled "hi" Derek said making his way to the fridge. He grabbed a water and was about to leave the room when his mom spoke up "are you not going to eat?" She asked. "I'll eat soon, but I don't think Mer is up for pancakes or anything" Derek said with a grin. "Oh does she not like pancakes?" Carolyn asked "no she likes pancakes she's just not feeling well right now, I have to get back to her" Derek said leaving the room. Carolyn was wondering why Meredith wasn't feeling well. Feeling bad for the woman, Carolyn decided she was going to take the kids out today for some shopping and fun, so Meredith and Derek could get some rest and Meredith could hopefully feel better. Meanwhile, Derek returned to their bathroom where he found Meredith vomiting again. He got back down in the floor and started to rub her back. "This sucks" She cried "I know I'm sorry" He said holding her in his arms. Meredith soon felt better and they agreed to go out to the living room. Once they got to the living room Meredith sat on the couch and Derek gave her a blanket. "I'll be right back, I'm going to get me some pancakes do you want some?" He asked "yeah sure not a lot tho" Meredith replied yawning. "Ok I'll be back". He didn't have to walk far, they had an open plan main floor with the kitchen overseeing the living room, he grabbed a plate and put a pancake on it for Meredith and another one for him. "You're finally eating?" Carolyn asked as she entered the room again "yeah and one for Mer" Derek replied. Carolyn saw Meredith sitting on the couch and went over to talk to her. "Meredith I heard you weren't feeling well" Carolyn said rubbing Merediths arm "how long haven't you felt good what's your symptoms?" She asked going protective mode. Meredith was her daughter in law and she wanted to make sure she was ok too. "I'm ok don't worry" Meredith sighed not wanting his mom to find out the truth. "Are you sure you don't need to get checked out" Carolyn asked "I have a doctors appointment later today anyways I'll say something about it then" she replied. Which was true she has her first OB appointment today and she was a little nervous. "You better" Carolyn said patting her shoulder. "Anyways I'm going to take the kids out today for shopping and fun so you guys can get rest" Carolyn said. "Thank you" Derek said hugging his mom. Derek got the kids ready and Carolyn took them to the mall. Derek and Meredith ate their pancakes and then cuddled. "What time is your appointment" Derek asked stretching his arms. "11 so we should get ready soon. It's already 9" Meredith yawned.  "Ok" Derek said kissing her neck. "But Derek I don't want Bailey to have a big birthday party I just want your family at the most" she stated. "That's ok I understand" Derek said standing up. "I'm going to go get ready" he said and Meredith followed him. They both got dressed and then got in the car driving towards Grey Sloan. They both had 3 weeks of vacation that they decided to take at the same time so they could spend time with their family so they don't have shifts to worry about. While they were in the car Derek spoke up. "It was good that you didn't tell my mom your symptoms earlier" "why" she wondered. "Because my mother knew my sisters were pregnant before they even knew" He laughed "do you think she knows I'm pregnant?" She wondered "no she definitely would've said something to me or you" he replied "ok" she calmed down. She doesn't want anyone else to know just incase something happens to their baby, then she wouldn't have to feel like she disappointed them. At least publicly. They arrived at the hospital and went up to OB. After waiting and doing paperwork for about 5 minutes later their OB Dr. Ryan was ready to meet with them. "Hello Meredith and Derek it's nice to see you two again" She smiled at the couple. "So we have another pregnancy on our hands" she said getting the equipment out. Meredith nodded. "How far along are you?" Connie asked "8 weeks I think" Meredith replied fidgeting with her finger. "Ok so today we are going to do a trans vaginal ultrasound to see how far you are and make sure everything is ok" she said writing something on the chart. "Everything off from the waist down, I'll be back" the OB said leaving the room allowing Meredith to get her clothes off. After Merediths clothes were off Connie came in and inserted the ultrasound. Meredith started to tense up when it was inserted and Connie had to remind her to stay calm. Soon enough the room was filled with the swooshing of their babies heartbeat. Tears sprung to Merediths eyes when she heard the noise causing her to squeeze Dereks hand. "So it looks like you are 8 weeks like you said, and your baby looks healthy" Connie smiled and asked a few questions about Merediths morning sickness and pre natal vitamins. When the appointment was almost over Meredith and Derek both wanted a picture of their healthy baby. Connie left the room and soon came back with a couple of pictures for the happy couple. They thank Connie and booked a follow up appointment then made their way home. It was now 12 and they were starting to get hungry. When they got home Meredith put the pictures of her baby on their dresser and left to go to the kitchen to get some food for her and Derek to eat. After they ate lunch they decided to watch a movie and cuddle on the couch. Halfway through the movie they were both sound asleep until Carolyn got home with the kids. The kids were fast to go and see their parents and tell them all about the day they had. "Meredith dear how are you feeling?" Carolyn asked sitting down next to her. "Better I think it all passed. And the doctor said everything was ok so no need to worry" Meredith smiled. "Uh oh" Zola said from the kitchen. All the adults turn around and see Zola spilled juice all over her shirt. "I'll deal with it" Carolyn said standing up. "Come on miss Zola we need to get you changed" She said grabbing Zola's hand. "Get her shirt off our dresser it's her favorite one" Derek shouted at his mother. Soon enough Zola come back striding into the living room in her favorite shirt smiling ear to ear, Carolyn following behind her. "Hey Zola how about you and Bailey go to your room and pick out some toys to play with out here" Carolyn suggested and Zola agreed taking Baileys hand and walking towards her bedroom. Now that the kids were gone she could talk. "So, I wasn't snooping I swear and I have suspected this for a while for many reasons, but on your dresser right next to Zola's shirt was and ultrasound picture" Carolyn stated. Meredith and Derek both looked at each other. He could see the worry in her eyes. He shot her a nod and she nodded back. "Well, obviously Meredith is pregnant" Derek smiled. "I knew it. You guys are horrible at hiding things" Carolyn smiled. Merediths leg started to bounce. Now that Carolyn knows Meredith has to make sure nothing happens to their baby. She can't let another person down. "Mer it's ok" Derek whispered. "Oh I'm sorry. I can see you guys were trying to keep it private" Carolyn apologized. "It's ok mom" Derek replied. Meredith still silent. Meredith got up and headed towards their bedroom, Derek following behind her. When they got in the room they shut the door and and Meredith broke down. Derek ran over to her and quickly took her into his arms. "It's going to be okay" he said holding her close. "I didn't want anyone to know until I was further along just incase something Happens. Like what if I miscarriage and your mom got her hopes up for nothing" she cried. "Meredith, I'll talk to my mom, I'll make sure she knows this is a high risk pregnancy with your uterus. She will understand and keep quiet I promise" he said just standing there with her in his arms. "Ok" she sniffled wiping her tears away with the help of Derek. "Lay down I'll be back" he said kissing her forehead and leaving the room. In the living room Carolyn was apologizing to Derek. "Mom it's ok but you have to understand you can't tell anyone. I mean anyone" Derek stated sternly. "I won't I promise. I didn't mean to hurt Meredith" Carolyn sighed. "She just didn't want anyone to know until further in the pregnancy because it is a high risk pregnancy. A long time ago when I got shot, she was pregnant that day but miscarried. We went to OB and got her checked out and they said she has a hostile uterus. Making it hard for her to conceive. She didn't want anyone to know because she didn't want them to get their hopes up just incase something happens to the baby. She doesn't want to disappoint anyone or get their hopes up for nothing" He sighed all the horrible memories in his head. His mother who didn't know any of this until now felt bad for her daughter in law all the pain the poor girl has gone through, all the worrying. "I'm so sorry Derek" She said pulling her son into a hug. "It's not your fault" He accepted the hug and let her know that she didn't do anything wrong. "I'll talk to Meredith next time I see her and make sure she knows I cant be disappointed over something she has no control over" She said pulling away from the hug. Derek nodded and went back to their bedroom to lay with and comfort his wife.
