Underwater: A Poem
I wish I could write to you from underwater,
As I feel each ocean current push me back,
Then forward again,
With an over-easy sun looking back at me from
The other side of the surface.
I wish I could write to you
From a place that feels so timeless,
Where I cannot witness the aging of every
One and thing that surrounds me.
I wish I could write and explain to you
The rusting of my dripping kitchen facet,
The creaking of bones that are growing wiser,
The extra point-five seconds it takes for me
To realize no music is playing on the radio.
I wish I could write to you,
And maybe then I would be able to explain more properly
How I truly feel when you ask me,
"Where do you feel most at home?"
