Everybody was at the wedding reception as Iain linked his hand with his brides hand as he smiled and said" I do love you Mrs Dean" as Ruby said" you better prove it to me when we go on our honeymoon."

Josh stood up and said" Good afternoon.

On behalf of Ruby and Iain, it's my pleasure to welcome you all to this very special celebration. It really is great to see so many friends and family here today.

Thank you all for coming. But a special thanks to those of you who have had long and difficult journeys. I know it means a great deal to Iain and Ruby that you're here with them today. Iain and Ruby not only found and booked this amazing hotel for their big day they also provided us with the fantastic meal we're all about to enjoy. In fact, in a welcome break from tradition, today is virtually all courtesy of Iain and Ruby themselves. So thank you both, very much, for your generosity and hard work.

Now, at this point it would be customary to spend a few minutes bragging about the qualities of our new son-in-law...and that would be very easy for me indeed; in fact, I've got two pages of notes here listing Iain's good points and the many reasons why he's a perfect match for our number one daughter. Unfortunately Iain, I can't read your hand writing...

Suffice to say, Penny and I are delighted Iain met Ruby that fateful day; they're obviously a very well suited couple and make each other very happy.

Finally, it was suggested to me that I should sign-off today with my thoughts on what makes for a successful, long and happy marriage. Well, I'm not sure I can put a finger on it, to be honest; and I'm sure it's different for every couple. In my case, it's been very easy. I've just done exactly what I've been told for the last 36 years and that works for us.

More seriously, stay best friends, don't sweat the small stuff, do lots of everything while you both can, have fun and try to laugh every day. I wish you both much love and happiness in your new married life together.

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, could you please stand for the bride and groom.

The toast is: Iain and Ruby."

Iain stood up and said" We would both like to thank everyone for coming today. It means a lot to us both to have all our family and friends here with us on our special day. We really appreciate the effort everyone has made, so thank you for that. Cheers.

I'm sure many will know, events like today don't just happen. We have both been planning this wedding for well over a year now. Well, when I say we, I actually mean Ruby and her mum did it all hard work.... They planned the entire day, from the sweet table, to the favours to picking the flowers – absolutely everything really. It's the best thing about being a bloke is that this wedding has seemed to have organised itself. But I think we can all agree, they have both done a fantastic job!

Penny and Josh, my new Mother and Father in law... Thank you for always making me welcome within your family and I hope I can live up to your expectations you have for a husband to your daughter... And Josh, thanks for very willingly giving Ruby away. When I asked if I could marry Ruby, I never heard anyone say yes so quickly...

Talking of my wife, I'm sure everyone will agree, that you look absolutely stunning today! And I feel privileged that you've said yes... Although I don't blame you... it was a very romantic proposal

But seriously... Today I'm so happy I get to marry my best friend.... We have had the most amazing journey so far, we have done so much in our 9 years together. We have been on plenty of holidays, had countless laughs together, and we have made lots of great memories. I can't wait to make many more great memories with you.. Knowing today is the best day of our lives.... Let's hope it doesn't go downhill from tomorrow.

Now back to the best man, Simon..... for those of you who don't know him ..... he loves to make up stories from their own imaginations, so please humour them, and feel free to heckle.

But before I had the microphone over to them, there are a few gifts that are going to handed out on our behalf. Whilst that is happening, We would both like to thank everyone again for coming, we hope you all have a great evening!"

Simon stood up and said" Good afternoon everyone – for those of you that don't know me, my name's Simon and after all these years it's nice that Iain has finally admitted that I'm the best man!

I hope you've all had a lovely time so far and continue to have a fantastic time as the day and evening goes by – I'd also like to apologise in advance if I, in any way, ruin that in the next five minutes.

I know from personal experience that it's a difficult task choosing a best man, I'm still not sure about my choice four years on eh Iain?! But with Iain, like most things in life, it became more difficult as time went on – his first choice was his funniest friend but unfortunately he said no, so then he thought he'd choose his cleverest friend but again, unfortunately the offer was declined. At the third attempt he turned to his most handsome friend but sadly it was a no yet again and at this point as you can imagine Iain was getting pretty desperate – that's when my phone rang! And, to be honest, hearing Iain's quivering little voice on the phone I decided I couldn't possibly turn him down for a fourth time!

I'm also impressed that he's chosen to whisk Ruby away on honeymoon in the UK – North Wales isn't it Iain?...oh ok, I obviously got confused when he said he was going to Florida for two weeks after the wedding!

I could honestly stand here and take the mick out of Iain all day long but I could definitely do with a beer now – although I do just want to impart one last bit of wisdom on you Iain... so, if Ruby could just place her hand on the table, palm down... etc.

How does that feel Iain? I can personally guarantee you that will be the last time you ever have the upper hand so make the most of it while you can!

I would like to thank Iain & Ruby for asking us to be a part of your special day – I genuinely hope, and I know that you will be very happy together, please look after him Ruby because he struggles to look after himself at times!

So if I could ask you all to join me in a toast – TO THE HAPPY COUPLE, THE BRIDE AND GROOM, IAIN AND RUBY!!"
