"Oh my god it's beautiful." Garcia exclaimed through my phone.

"Isnt it?" I sighed dreamily looking in the mirror. The date was tonight and I've had Garcia on FaceTime to get me ready. I stared into the mirror. My dress was a beautiful navy blue that flared out just above my knees. A small silver necklace dangled around my neck. My hair was twisted into curls that slipped down my shoulders.

I'm no stranger to first dates. I knew never to get too excited just incase you don't get a call back. But something about this date was different. Hotch was different. My heart fluttered just imagining tonight. Me and him dining outside, watching the sunset lower into the earth.

"Your gonna have the best time." Garcia said snapping be out of my vision. I smiled at the phone. "I really hope so. As long as I don't slip up it should be fine." This entire day my mind had been set on coming up with thousands of scenarios where anything could go wrong. "It'll be fun! Don't freak out alright?" Garcia reassured me. I smiled softly at her. "Where would I be without you?" She laughed "probably not on a date with Hotch. Speaking of which is in ten minutes!" I turned to look at my clock above my head. Oh my god she was right. "Shoot! Bye Penelope!" I said and swiftly hung up. Hotch would be hear any minute and hear I was fantasizing.

I grabbed my purse and waited at the white door in-front of me where Hotch would appear. I checked my phone, twenty minutes had gone by from when he was supposed to arrive. I started to tap my foot out of nerves. Would he...ditch me?

Almost half an hour passed and I could feel my heart sink. Why would he invite me on a date just to stand me up. Ugh why would I ever believe he would want to go out with me. Hotch and me did talk about the date and he always seemed excited. But then again he's different. There's a chance he changed his mind last minute. I sighed and started to make my way to my bedroom, ready to switch off my pretty blue dress with an old sweatshirt.

Than I heard a knock at my door. My heart skipped a beat as I immediately ran over to open it. In front of me was a stressed looking Hotch with a sorry bunch of flowers in his hand. "Hotch!" I gasped with a bit too much enthusiasm. I didn't want him to know how relieved I was to see him. He had me waiting for a while whole hour. I stiffened my posture and tried to give him my best glare. He wasn't getting away with this.

"Nice of you to drop by." I said firmly
"Y/n please I'm sorry....something came up." He spoke with such sincerity I wanted to hold him. But no, he made me wait an hour with no heads up. A warning would've been nice. "Ok well if it was so important why didn't you call? Or did you just want to get out of the date? Cause listen Hotch I'm not going to keep guessing weither you like me or not! You haven't talked to me since we planned the date." I exclaimed. Suddenly all the emotion and frustration came rushing out. I've been trying to keep cool about it but I couldn't anymore. Why should I play the will he won't he game? Hotch looked at me with hurt written across his face. But there's was more. There was a sense of guilt.

"Y/n I- I understand." He stuttered. I've never heard him stutter before. It was oddly strange. "I was late tonight because Jack has been having problems at school. Actually he's been having problems ever since his mother well you know..." he said softly. I nodded. "the divorce?" He gave me a confused look. "Oh um no. Haley was murdered..." My eyes widened.
Oh my God.
That's why Hotch was always rereading cases. He was reading his dead wife's file. I could feel my face heat up.

"Oh Hotch I had no idea, I'm so sorry! I thought it was a divorce. If you and Jack need time I shouldn't be getting in the way, I-"
Hotch put his hands in mine. "Listen y/n it's fine. It happened a while ago when our marriage was at its worst. Slowly I've been able to accept it but Jack...he's been getting in fights. Kids pick on him and push him to his edge." My heart broke. Hotch often spoke so highly of his son, but to hear him say he's been in trouble was shocking. "But listen I'm here now okay? I talked to him and I'm ready to go now." He said with a small smile. "I want to be here with you y/n....I care about you."

I smiled and squeezed his hand. "Hotch we really don't have to if you don't want too. We probably missed the reservation anyway." I said softly. He checked his watch and sighed. "Oh y/n I'm sorry. I ruined our night." I shook my head and thought for a second. "Okay well I know it's not ideal but there is one place that's still open and won't be busy." I grinned.

Twenty minutes later

The Taco Bell sign glowed above our heads as we walked into the restaurant. We sat down at a dirty booth and joked around. The cashier stared at us. Me nor Hotch changed out of our formal clothes and we looked like we got lost on the way to the ball. We both ordered chalupas and sat at the booth under the window. The flickering streetlights shimmered across Hotchs brown eyes. I couldn't help but stare.

"What?" He asked with a chuckle. "Nothing" I said with a little shrug. "It's just you look very pretty." I murmured trying not to blush. He went bright red and wiped his face with a napkin, trying to hide it. "Well I never got to tell you how pretty you looked tonight." Now it was my turn to go red. This whole night had been lovely besides the beginning break down.

Once we finished our tacos we left the restaurant. Right before heading to the car Hotch stopped in-front of the neon sign. Hotch took a steady breath before reaching out his hands to hold mine. "Listen y/n. Ever since I met you I've been happier. I have no idea how you do it but you've made me feel a way I haven't in a long time..." his voice trailed off. I could feel my pulse quicken as his hand went from my fingers to my shoulders. "Hotch..." I breathed out. His face started to lean towards mine and suddenly we collided. His lips tasted l warm and welcoming. I put my hands behind his head and ruffles his black hair. The moment our lips touched I could feel time stop and suddenly the world around us disappeared. All my doubts, fears, and anxiety seemed to melt away at his touch.

When he finally backed away he was grinning ear to ear. "I've been waiting to do that." I whispered with a small giggle. He laughed and wrapped his arm around me. "Why don't we head back ok? It's getting late." He whispered into my ear. I smirked and nodded. As we headed off to the car I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on air and judging by the way Hotch held me, he felt the same.
