The next day was rainy and wet. I came in for work in a bundle of nerves, afraid Hotch would come up to me and I wouldn't be able to talk to him. Recently just the very thought of him makes my heart race.

I sat at my desk and began to type away at a case that happened two days ago. Whenever Hotch would cloud my mind I always attempted to clear it when reading about brutal crimes. I clicked through the file adding in information to update the case when suddenly a tall skinny man walked up to my desk.

"Hello, your y/n y/ln right? I'm Spencer Reid a member of the BAU." He said with a soft smile. I jumped out of my seat and shook his hand. "Oh! Dr Reid I've heard about you, I've read a lot about your work." I said gesturing to the computer. "The others have told me lots of about you as well. If you don't mind me asking where have you been?" I asked gently. Reid's been missing ever since I arrived at the BAU and it made me wonder if he got caught in a case. He looked down at his mismatched socks for a second and sighed before looking back at me.

"I ended up in a hostage situation with my Girlfriend Maeve. Unfortunately she was shot." He saw my face drop and shook his head with a small smile. "No no she's not dead! I was able to get to the gun before it aimed at her head. It hit her leg. For the past four months I've been helping her recover." I sighed a breath of relief. I would hate to bring up a bad memory. The idea of losing someone you love makes me sick just thinking about it.

Spencer then cleared his throats "Enough about me though, I heard that your getting quite fond of Hotch?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and small smirk. I groaned "did Garcia tell you?" He nodded and laughed "I'm not here to poke fun at you y/n I just want to kinda congratulate you. Hotch has been in a rough spot ever since his marriage ended abruptly." Hotch only told me about his ex wife once and all he said was that she was never really in love with him. I assumed the divorce must've been brutal considering the way he used to say her name. "Anyway I just wanted to say hi and formally introduce myself. Guess I'll see you later!" Spencer said with a wave and walked out.

I watched him strut off and turned back to my work. I chuckled quietly to myself while imagining Garcia telling anyone who'd listen about the date. As much as she gets on my nerves I still love how much she cares.

I went through the rest of the day imaging our perfect date. Me and Hotch in formal attire, dining at a glorious restaurant, laughing and drinking the night away. My brain was buzzing with excitement just thinking about what I was going to wear. It was going to be a night to remember.

HOTCHS POV
I sat at my desk strumming my fingers against the surface. Usually I was good at focusing during work but I just couldn't. I couldn't get her out of my head. Y/n had been occupying my mind ever since she walked through the office door ten minutes late. I invited her out to one of my favorite restaurants with little to no plans. Now I had no idea what to wear, say, act, or do. The last time I felt like this was for Haley, and even then it was short lived.

"God your a mess." A man scoffed. I spun around to see Reid smiling at me.
"Is it that obvious?" I asked as I rolled my eyes. He leaned up against my desk and nodded.

"Listen, first dates are hard. Mine was with a kidnapper in a warehouse and that's not super romantic. It can't get worse than that."

I chuckled dryly. Reid did have a point. It's not like y/n's going to be featured on a murder case. But that's what I assumed about Haley and now I can only visit her in her grave.

"I mean I guess your right. It's just...I don't want to mess this one up." I said softly. Spencer knew about my ex wife. What he didn't know was how she began to cheat on me a few months before she died. I never found out who it was with or how long it actually was for but it still broke my heart. For a long time I believed I would never love again but then y/n appeared. She was everything I've ever admired in a person. I couldn't bear to lose that.

Spencer shook his head. "Listen Hotch that won't happen. Your gonna do great ok?" Reid assured me. I still didn't feel entirely confident but I had to give it a shot right?

A/N: Kind of a filler chapter but I wanted to use Spencer at some point. So yeah not the best chapter and it's pretty short but I wanted to try something different 😌
