Life was different after rejection, especially for someone who had never been rejected before. Adam was the type of guy who had a powerful gaze, and he knew that. Most of the women that earned his attention also fell on his trap, and they ended up falling for him because, besides the looks, he also was a caring guy and had a captivating and intriguing personality. Usually, he was the one who had to plan the kindest way of telling someone off. The way Debora left the penthouse the other day, was probably payback for all those women he didn't know how to love.
Nevertheless, the rehearsal happened. The whole time he struggled with his thoughts. Some of his thoughts were telling him to beg for her love, others just told him to get revenge. There were unanswered questions in his head, and one still small voice telling him to let her go and accept her decision.
At first, he decided to beg for her. Debora was walking out of the church, after the rehearsal, and James was with her. Adam went after her.
"Debora?"
Both James and Debora looked back at the tall Adam.
"Do you have a minute?" Adam walked closer to her.
"Sure." She looked at James first and then back at Adam.
"Alright, so I'm gonna take my leave. See ya, guys!" James said his farewell and walked out.
Debora started feeling restless all alone with Adam in the church's lobby, whereas he didn't even know how to start his dialogue.
"Debbie, uh... " He hesitated. "Do you want a ride home?"
"Actually, I'm fine walking." She gave him a fake smile.
"Alright." He understood the message. "Uh..." He tried once again.
"Yes, Adam?" She tried to rush him. "I have to go before it gets too dark."
He was silent for an instant, looking at her with those piercing eyes of his.
"Sorry I," He was all jumbled in his words. "I just wanted you to give me another chance. Because I don't know what I did for you to walk out on me like that a few days ago. I'm not coping very well with that either." He spoke reluctantly.
"Well, I'm just free from your spell."
"But that quick?" He had pleading eyes. "Is it Joel? You like him now?" He suggested. "Because if it is, I can tell you, he's never gonna love you as much as I do." He had the nerve to pull that card.
"Oh..." She just thought that the line he dropped there about his friend was a bit audacious. That conversation left her very uncomfortable. "Adam, the way you treated me was disgusting." She tried to get a grip on herself. "And I'm disgusted by your attitude right now." She looked away, sad that she had to tell him such a cruel truth. "I'm not gonna put myself in that position again." She added. "Jesus died for me so that I could be free. And I don't need a man to complete my happiness, all I need is Jesus." She finished. "I'm sorry."
She turned her back on him and walked out of the building. Right after that, her hands were shaking, and she didn't even know if she had done the right thing and how Adam would take it. She could have been cruel, but he was the only one who could decide what to do with those words.
Debora couldn't believe that it was over! It was over! It felt so strange though. It was hard to let go, and even the after-feeling of letting go was just so uncommon...! She was starting to fall in love with life again! A smile appeared on her face. She opened her arms shamelessly and looked up, thanking God for that freedom. After all that time, letting go of Adam just depended on her, God had helped her all along, with the advice of people like Michelle and Joel.
