17 - [Epilogue]

"After the end of a lonely day
And you're gonna stand there
In the middle of a lonely night
And try to smile brightly"

Changbin closed his notebook, another doodle of Felix's smiling face on it, another set of words and another song started, as of now, nothing could stop him anymore.

He breathed in the fresh air of the nigh, not too late yet, and rolled his eyes at the noise that came from the stomach.

The members were taking so long, he just wanted to go eat.

The darkness on the small street, that day, felt a bit less closed, it never choked him, it freed him, but it was a limited freedom, because he knew that as soon as he left those walls, the breeze would be cut and the weight would come back.

But not this time.

He hummed a bit to no one in particular as his eyes took in the houses in front of him. The rotten wood, the broken glasses, the "selling" cards that seems to have been there forever, iluminares by the faint moonlight and yellow streetlight.

He opened the notebook again to add a final sentence to the part he had just wrote, humming in along with a random melody, his voice echoing in the street.

I'm serious, I'd rather hurt instead of you
Seeing you smile makes me happy
Even though you look the prettiest when you smile
When you just wanna cry, don't fake a smile

Your eyes filled with happiness yeah
Are water that will spill even with the slightest jolt
That's why I'm more cautious
I'm worried for you 'cause I like you

He smiled and closer it again, his mind already running through the next sentences, his fingers tapping on the bench.

"Bin?"

That voice, the voice he loved.

"Going!"

He got up.

Felix. With his smile shinning through the darkness that consumed him, stood right in the middle do the street, smiling at his boyfriend, hand stretched.

"Doesn't your head hurt? You barely have any light here."

"I'm okay, when I sit down it's pretty strong.", he nodded, their hands intertwining.

His friends right there, in the entrance of the street, in ridiculous big clothes to protect themselves from the cold, ready to do anything for him, anytime, all he had to do was ask.

He let Felix guide him to them, and then turned around, feeling a weird shiver run down his spine, spreading to his whole body as if he came out of a transe.

He stared back at the street that kept him sane all that time, his chest tingling with an emotion he couldn't quite distinguish.

That street held him when Felix couldn't, loved him when he didn't know what it was like to be loved. That bench heard him like no one else and those stars healed him like no medicine ever did.

That light, alone in the middle of the street, found him by fate, and guided him like a lighthouse.

"Ready to go?"

Changbin turned to his boyfriend, smiling, the first true smile he had ever had on while on that street.

Do you see this?

The stars smiled back at him. They did. They saw it.

"Sure.", he let his hand intertwine with Felix's, feeling home for the first time in years. He had found his fate, his destination, no matter how troubled the journey was.

Felix kissed his forehead and they walked out of the old street, the rest of the boys, the rest of their family, waiting for them right there.

Changbin never found that street again.

In fact, as soon as the boys exited it, the old streetlight found itself victim to time, flickering and switching off, just like all the others, leaving behind a trail of darkness engulfing the abandoned street, as it had no reason to shine anymore.
