"Wait, Nuadha had a wife?" Alec asked. Ava had already known this, having taken her place in the strange dreams she was having lately. This apparently wasn't common knowledge though. Ava wouldn't know because her parents never finished her schooling.
"Well, nobody knows for certain that she really existed. There have been rumours going around that Nuadha had a wife because there was a period of years after the battle with the Fomorians that he didn't really lead his people," Jace explained. "He helped to rebuild after the battle and stayed in the palace but he didn't make any appearances as king and didn't participate in any of the politics of Avalon."
Ava's heart sped up, remembering her dream and the pain in Nuadha's eyes. His wife had severed their connection but she was certain that she still felt his pain at seeing her die. The pain at being kept alive as well, even as his other half died.
Alec suddenly looked up at her, his eyes narrowing. Ava suddenly felt suspicion and confusion but it definitely was not hers. Maybe Alec was secretly an empath? Ava narrowed her eyes at him in return and suddenly, the emotions disappeared. Alec kept kneading her calves, forcing Ava to relax again.
"So, we're not actually sure he had a significant other?" Reece asked. Jace shook his head, giving Ava a quick squeeze. Ava wanted to tell them about her dreams but she stopped. Honestly, she wasn't sure she could trust any of them, Jace included. And she hadn't really figured out the dreams. She didn't know what they were supposed to represent or why she was the one that was having them.
Ava knew they were memories from Nuadha's wife but she wasn't sure why she would be dreaming of them. Ava hadn't even met Nuadha yet, was unlikely to meet him until they managed to capture Breas, which wasn't even a sure thing for the Nephilim yet. If, for some reason, Jace and the boys would need to know something important she gleaned from her dreams, she would tell them. Until then, her dreams would stay with her.
"It's hard to know for sure. Even written records never mentioned anything concrete but this was probably by design after threats against Nuadha arose. He was protecting his most important treasure," Jace said. As he spoke, he looked over to Ava and smiled. Unbeknownst to Ava, so did Alec and Reece. "Back to the sword," Jace said, sitting up again.
"The sword hasn't been used since then. Some believe it was destroyed but that would be impossible because the magic of the sword is tied directly to the magic of Avalon. Remember the ritual I told you about Ava?" Jace asked. Alec and Reece looked confused but Ava nodded. "Well, that would be why it was impossible to destroy the sword."
Before Alec could ask, a loud bang on the door startled the group. "Ava? Jace? Are you awake yet?" The voice came through the door loudly, sounding sweet. It was Katelyn. Alec and Reece were in the bathroom in the next second, causing Jace and Ava to move too. They were at the door and opening it as Katelyn was getting ready to knock a second time.
"Oh! All that training helped you somehow Avalynn. And Jace, a pleasure to see you," Katelyn said, shooting Jace a sugary smile. Ava barely resisted rolling her eyes. "Well, be sure to get ready now. The Council is leaving and we should be back within a couple hours for the brief. We're expecting you two to keep the other Nephilim in check, with the help of some our more seasoned warriors."
