It's another beautiful Monday. Even though things aren't going too well at home, at least I am glad I can smile through it. Mr Idowu had been really miserable after the death of his wife, he quit his job his petty job because of that. Sadly March and Michael had to step in doing different jobs just to keep the roof over our head and make sure we were all well fed.

Indeed it was a difficult task for the two of them alone, but thanks to the price money I got from the dance competition. I was able use it to fund myself to school and still assist my family a little. Like the saying goes, there is an end to every thing and indeed I do hope that Mr Idowu puts an end to this immense pain he is unintentionally and indirectly making us go through.

I was walking to school this morning to clear my head and Work on the  Strategy I would used to make more money for my family, without it affecting my academics. I couldn't apply for any job because of my Dyslexic condition.  Even if I did they would mostly use me as a glorified house help and I didn't want that.

I had so much to offer the world and being a glorified house help wasn't it at all. If I was going to work then I would have to think outside the box, what could I do that doesn't require reading and writing but pays reasonably.

"Hi. Umm  you go to Ocenviews Academy, right? I mean obviously you are, hence why you are in their uniform."

" yeah you're in the uniform too, what's up? can I help you?"

I responded to the handsome stranger who was also dressed in Oceanviews school uniform. He looked nervous as he scratched the back of his head. After taking in a huge puff of air he asked with all honesty and  sincerity, his eyes never leaving mine.

" can you be my tour guide for this school? I honestly get lost every time I'm trying to find the cafeteria and it's not funny when I end up at the teacher Lounge"

I so badly wanted to laugh, but when i realized how serious he was I clear my throat  instead and smile at him. He looked uncomfortable confessing that to me so I spoke assuring him and accepting his request.

"It's fine, I'll be your tour guide. What class are you in?"

" SS 1 Science, I think it's right next to the art class on the ground floor."

"Yea it is we are going to be late for  Assembly. Oh I almost  forgot, the name is Maddlyen Adeyemi Coker by the way. What's yours?"

" oh my bad, Denise Ayomikun Falade."

And just like that we were entering the school gate and heading to the assembly hall where the assembly was about the start. We go there just in time the assembly started, after praise and  worship, using our Songs of praise (SOP) we all said a word of prayer lead by a new assembly prefect, David. After that session the principal gave his usual morning address on ethics and morals before moving to a special announcement.

" now I have a special announcement to make and it concerns you all. We all know that Every year the De Genius academy Competition is held in different parts of the country. Last year it was Abuja but this time, it is to be held in our beloved city of Lagos and we were given an invitation to partake in competition. There are going to lots and lots of prices and ofcourse rewards for the winning school, one of which includes scholarships to at least 5 students to study in any university of your choice as long as it  within Nigeria. Interested Candidates from SS 1- 3 should see me by the end of today. That will be all for today, thank you and have a great day."

I got to my class 30min after the assembly because I needed to show Denise around to some important places he needed to know. The course we were to have was literature, and for some reason the teacher was running late, I wonder what was holding her up. Just when I was about getting up to go and search for her in her office she walked in briskly, sweating like someone who ran a marathon. Or maybe she did.

" apologies for the delay class. My car broke down in the middle of third Mainland bridge. I had to get it out of there some how."

" oh! we are sorry for the Stress ma"

I said on behalf of my classmates some of my classmates glanced at me surprised I was human enough to say that. What do this people Take me for really? Just because I have dyslexia doesn't mean I am not human. Either ways it doesn't matter, what matters is that they  have stopped bullying me, at least those that did JSS3 with me and decided to continue SS1 here dont even talk to me let alone bully me.

" thanks Adeyemi. Didn't know you cared, hmmm and for that an extra 10 marks will be added to your total score at the end of the term."

" ahhhh ma!!! It's not like that."

" ahhh it's not fair ma, I care too,  we care."

Said some of my classmates, especially those that knew me and knew my deficiency. They were very upset and some of them were glaring at me angrily because they felt I didn't deserve it. It not like i was holding their mouth not too talk or ask questions , but now that I did for the right reason, and I was rewarded, it's offensive to then.

" hsss! hang it. Back to the class, last time we talked about figures of speech and we harmered more on Simile. Who can make a good example of Simile for me."

Someone from the back of the class raised her hands to speaks, i turned my head a-little so  I could see her. The teacher pointed to her and she stood up to speak. She cleared her throat for dramatic effect her eyes were on me and a smirk on her lips as she said.

"Maddy is as stupid as a rat."

"Good that an excellent ex— wait, isn't that. Gabriella why are you indirectly insulting Maddlyen."

The literature teacher complained, I looked away from Gabriella totally unaffected by her insult. She was going have to do better than that next time if she really wanted to insult me because I could go down that road if she was asking for it. After she made Gabriella apologize to me the class continued and it was then I recalled. She was the one that called me Ugly when I was using the girls bathroom the other day when I was still in JSS3.

After hours had rolled by it was finally closing time. I didn't get to spend lunch with Gage because Denise took up my time, immediately after I finished eating he came to meet me in my class so I could show him around and I was glad . Another opportunity to be away form Samara who won't stop talking, someone really needs to put her on halt or break or something. I was currently with Gage now following him to the principals office so he can pen his name down for the completion.

"c'mon Maddlyen, you are my best friend this competition won't be worth it with out you in it."

" but I really don't want to Gage. Pls I am already stressed enough as it is."

" look on the bight side, you are loosing enough as it is. Join the competition and be on the wining side. And I promise I'll tutor you Twice as hard."

Well there certainly was no harm in trying, and as long as I  didn't have to pay a dime then I am in. With that in mind we both signed up for the competition a smile gracing our face before we both headed home.
