The next morning the band had a rehearsal. Jane joined them and drew a bit while they were playing. After the rehearsal Jane seemed very focused on her drawing. "We're grabbing a drink. Wanna join us babe?", Roger asked laying a hand on Jane's shoulder. "No thanks I'm finishing this drawing. But have fun", she said and smiled. Roger nodded and quickly pet her lips. When all of them had left, Jane let her view wander through the room. She saw an acoustic guitar standing in a corner and went to pick it up.
She smiled holding the instrument as she remembered how she used to play it often when she was younger. She sat down and started playing a song her mom had always sung her to sleep with.
Roger realised that he forgot his purse in the rehearsal room and went back to get it. When he walked down the hallway, he heard a soft melody coming from the rehearsal room. Slowly he tiptoed to the door, trying to not make any sound.
He looked through the little crack in the door to see Jane sitting on a sofa with a guitar in her hands. To his surprise she then started singing. "Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine." (Picture the version of Scarborough Fair by Celtic woman)
He stood there, completely stunned by her voice. He had known her for over 6 months now and didn't even know she could sing. He closed his eyes and listened to her sweet voice. Only about a minute later he couldn't take it any longer and walked into the room.
Jane jerked up when he came in. "Jesus fucking Christ Jane I didn't know you can sing!", he said amazed. "I- Uhm I-", she stuttered. "Why didn't you tell us? I mean a voice like yours could really be useful in some of our songs!"
"I-", Jane started and breathed out. "Haven't sung since my parents died. And I completely forgot how it feels like", she said and closed her eyes. "I never should've stopped". Roger took her in his arms. "You sound like an angel baby. Will you sing in front of all of us sometime?", he begged. "I wanna brag with my talented girlfriend", he kissed her head. Jane laughed softly. "Fine. If you beg so nicely", she said and looked up to him with a cheeky grin on her face.
He smiled back at her a little surprised. "You always complain about how cheeky I am when you're just as cheeky as me". Jane rolled her eyes playfully. "A match made in heaven", she said ironically. "Rog, are you coming now or what?", the distant voice of Brian shouted. "Coming!", he yelled back. "Got to go", he said and kissed Jane on her cheek, grabbed his purse and ran outside.
When the band came back to continue practicing, Roger told them to wait. Jane stood up and grabbed the guitar she had used before. "Just listen", Roger said and Jane started playing. The guys soon noticed the melody Jane was playing. She was playing Nevermore.
When she started singing, all their faces lightened up and they looked at each other. Clearly they were all thinking the same. While Jane sang: "why did you have to leave me, why did you deceive me, send me to the back of nevermore?", the others joined with their typical four harmony singing. Jane looked up to them and smiled widely. When the guys joined she had a feeling of unity and her heart almost missed a beat because of joy.
When the song was done they all applauded. "Told you so!", Roger said as he saw the amazed faces of his friends. Jane was redder than a tomato. "Aw guys you're too kind. Stop I'm really not that good", she said smiling like an idiot. "No darling we won't stop!", Freddie said and walked over to her. "You are amazing! I absolutely adore your voice! You should join us on stage sometime.", he offered smiling.
"Oh my god yes! That'd be so cool!", Brian said and Jane smiled at him. It was a warm but unsure smile. Roger noticed the way Jane smiled at Brian. It was different. She wasn't sure how to feel. He decided to talk about that as soon as they were alone. "Oh guys Uhm I- ."
"No.", Freddie stopped her. "I insist!", he said and smiled widely. "Okay", Jane finally agreed and the others cheered."Me on stage with my girlfriend while she is singing and I'm playing the drums? That combines everything I love", he said and looked at her. "Aw that was utterly cute Rog", John said.
The band continued practicing and Jane went to get something to drink. When the rehearsal was done, Roger joined his girlfriend at the bar. "Hey what was that smile you gave Brian? It seemed like you were unsure of how to act around him. Did he say something wrong?", Roger asked. Jane thought a second if she should tell Roger about Brian's confession. But she thought it could do no harm since there was nothing between her and Brian.
"Well Brian confessed he had some feelings for me but he assured me that he doesn't want to ruin anything but just wanted to let me know.", she explained. Roger's smile immediately disappeared. "He what?", he asked angrily. Jane's eyes widened. "Oh Rog please don't freak out now!", she completely forgot about his tempers.
"I told him it's okay! And he just wants to be friends with me! He can't control who he likes! None of us can", she tired to calm him. But it didn't work. "That little bastard."
"Honey please don't!", Jane said as he stood up. Roger then stormed out of the room. Jane ran close behind him, still trying to calm him down. "Brian!", he yelled across the hallway. He found Brian in the rehearsal room, packing his guitar. He was looking very confused by seeing a very angry Roger storming into the room. Roger grabbed his shoulders and pinned him against the wall.
"You! You can't just sit back and let me be happy for once, can't you?!", he yelled. "Rog what the hell are our talking about?!", Brian said very confused but also angry now. "I'm talking about my girlfriend who seemed you seem to like very much!". Suddenly it ringed. "Rog come on! You know I'd never ever try to ruin your relationship I-"
"SHUT UP!", Rog interrupted him. "ROGER!", they both turned around and saw Jane standing in the doorway. "Let go of him! Please he hasn't done anything wrong", Jane assured him. Roger slowly let go of Brian when he saw Jane being really mad about his actions. "Now stop being a complete arsehole and calm the fuck down!", Jane said seriously. "Sorry", he just said and walked out of the room.
Jane went over to Brian. "Sorry Bri, you know how he is. I just forgot about it and-" "It's fine Jane. Really. He'll calm down", Brian said and nodded. Jane breathed in relief. "Now go and try to calm him", he said and smiled. Jane smiled back. "Thanks Bri", she said and left the room.
