Luke's POV:
The bell rang for my last class and I saw my friend Cody waving hello to me the moment I stepped out of the classroom.
"Hey, are you still going to go to my birthday party tonight?" Cody asked me.
"Definitely. I'll see you there!" I exclaimed.
Cody and I waved goodbye to each other and walked our separate ways out of the school building.
As I was enjoying my peaceful walk home, something in the streets near my house caught my attention. I saw two cars that seemed to have crashed into each other, and ambulances and police cars crowded around the accident. I spotted a boy in a blue and red costume out of the corner of my eye. He seemed familiar, so I pulled out my phone and checked Twitter. All that I saw on my feed was pictures of this boy and breaking news about the accident that was happening right in front of me. Without thinking twice about it, I ran over towards where the two now broken cars were. That's when I realized who the boy was - Ashton Irwin, better known as Smash.
Yeah, I was only a teenager - almost an adult, really - but I admired Ashton. I didn't exactly want to be a superhero or anything, I just admired his bravery and courage and I wish I was like that - but I'm not. Most of the time, I'm just a clumsy scaredy cat who runs away from all of the problems in my life because i have no idea what to do.
Ashton turned around and noticed that I was standing behind him.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I'm Luke. Is there any way I can help?"
"I appreciate the offer, but please go away. This is far too dangerous for a boy like you to get invovled in," Ashton told him, "How old are you anyway? FIfteen?"
I tried to ignore the snide remark that Ashton made, saying, "Actually, I'm seventeen, almost eighteen."
Ashton rolled his eyes.
"Look. I want to help, and I'm not going to leave until you agree to let me do just that," I told Ashton.
"I'm going to guess that you don't take no for an answer," Ashton said.
"No, I don't," I replied.
"Alright. Seeing as I probably don't have any other choice, I'll let you help just this once," Ashton told me.
A smile formed on my face.
By now, all the people who were involved in the car accident were all either lost, in a police car, or in an ambulance on their way to the nearest hospital.
Ashton saw many broken pieces of glass and random debri that was scattered all over the ground from the accident that was witnessed just moments before.
"Here, if you want to help, just pick up some of this crap," Ashton told me, "Be careful when you're picking up the glass. You don't want to get hurt, do you?"
I shook my head no.
"Just as I thought," Ashton said.
I watched my step as I carefully bent down and picked up some of the broken pieces of glass.
"Where's the nearest trashcan?" I asked Ashton.
"Over there," he answered, pointing to a bin not too far away.
"Thanks, I'll be right back," I said before walking away to get rid of the sharp pieces of glass in my hands. I'm suprised that I hadn't gotten poked yet.
As I threw some of the glass pieces in the trash bin, I heard my phone vibrate in the back pocket of my ripped jeans. Being completely unaware of what was going on, like I usually am, I pulled my phone out of my pocket with my left hand and saw a text from Michael. I was about to text a response when I just realized that I still had a tiny piece of glass in my right hand and there was a scratch on my finger - at least I hope it was a scratch.
I put my phone away, dropped the piece of glass into the trash bin and ran back to find Ashton.
"Oh good, you're back," Ashton said when he saw me, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I answered, "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Your hand is bleeding," Ashton explained.
I looked down at my right hand and saw that it had been cut by that piece of glass, not just scratched.
"Crap," I mumbled to myself.
"When I'm done cleaning all this up, I'll take you back to my place and help you," Ashton offered.
"You don't have to do that, Ashton," I said, "Besides, I have somewhere to go."
"Well, you're not going with your hand looking like that," Ashton told me.
After Ashton was done cleaning up everything that was left on he ground, he said, "My house isn't very far from here. We can just walk."
"Okay," I replied, nodding my head.
That was the moment where Luke realized that Ashton wasn't just brave and courageous - he was truly a good person.
