"I'm sorry, what did you say?" Luke asked in shock, as if he didn't hear what Ashton had just asked him.
"I think you heard exactly what I just said," Ashton retorted.
Luke sat in silence for a while, thinking about the matter at hand. He didn't imagine even meeting Ashton, let alone being his sidekick. All that Luke did was help Ashton, and that was just from the kindness of his heart; he was a kind and generous person and always has been. Although Luke could be a bit clumsy and awkward at times, people still loved him for who he was. He hoped that Ashton would do the same.
"Ashton," Luke began, "Let me explain something. When I first helped you out that day, I did it because I wanted to help, not just because it was you who was the hero who saved everybody from whatever the frick was going on. I helped you because I'm that type of person. I'm willing to help you whenever you need it. I'm here for you. I just hope you see me as a regular guy, not as the kid who admires someone and looks up to them just because they're famous."
"This is a bit confusing," Ashton said, "Are you saying that you want to be my sidekick or not?"
"Let me finish what I was going to say, and please, please, please hear me out," Luke explained, "I enjoy helping people - yes, I actually like to help people, and not just because it's the nice thing to do. It's because I'd rather be sad and see someone else be happy than the other way around. However, I do like to keep to myself quite a bit and I'm a bit clumsy and awkward, in case it wasn't obvious enough."
Ashton laughed.
"Sorry, I'm rambling," Luke said awkwardly, "Anyways, what I wanted to say was that I'd be glad to help you. I just think it'll be a little bit strange to deal with the fame. I mean, I'm just a normal guy, you know?"
"I completely understand what you're trying to say," Ashton said, nodding his head. "but let's get one thing straight: Are you going to work with me and be my trusty sidekick or not?"
Luke debated about this situation in this mind. He took a moment to think about all that he had to deal with - every single little side effect that came with being Ashton's sidekick. If he said yes and became Ashton's sidekick for who knows how long, he wouldn't feel like a normal guy anymore. He would have to deal with the flashing lights and paparazzi constantly and worrying about the very little privacy that he would get for possibly the rest of his life. Then there was stress. Luke already had problems with stress in the past that could not be handled easily, and hoped that he wouldn't be too affected by it in the future.
After all that thinking, Luke made a decision and began to spoke.
"I'll do it," Luke said.
Ashton smiled.
"I just need to let you know that I have a bit of trouble with stress," Luke explained.
"It's okay," Ashton told him, "Just don't let the fame get to your head and you'll be fine."
Although Luke continued to wonder about what new opportunities would come and how he would deal with them, he was excited to be Ashton's sidekick.
