Sometimes people try to destroy you, precisely because they recognise your power- not because they don't see it, but because they see it and they don't want it to exist.

Reyyan was busy surfing on Melissa's laptop, just looking around at random stuff. She had exhausted herself searching for universities; all of them were closed for applications; she would have to wait for the next academic year. Though she was not sure how she would afford, she was determined to turn her life around. She had let people throw her around and use her for too long and now she finally got a chance to live her life, so she was going to take it. But for now, she will have to find a job; this boredom was killing her, and a salary would be nice too.

She was sitting in the room when a knock sounded on the door.

Reyyan wondered who it was since Melissa's shift wasn't over yet. She cautiously approached the door, barefoot to not make a noise, and peeped through the keyhole; it was a tall man whose face was hidden. The knocks started increasing, both in frequency and pitch.

Now she was terrified; this person knew someone was here. She frantically looked around the house for something to hit with, or somewhere to run, but suddenly the door burst open as the hinges gave up, and in entered a man, with a pistol in his hand.

Reyyan screamed and threw a vase at him. She didn't stay to see if it hit as she made for the bedroom; maybe she should call Melissa, since she was police. She quickly locked the door and grabbed her phone and called her, but the Melissa's phone was busy.

She had no time to wait for her to pick up, as the stranger broke down the door again, and Reyyan threw whatever her hands could grab at him. She threw a stack of books at him and ran for the front door, but he was faster than her. As soon as she reached the living room, she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder and a gunshot. She screamed in pain and fell to the floor; trembling and screaming, hoping someone would come. But no help came as his shadow loomed over her, the gun aimed at her.

"Iyi gecelar Reyyan hanim" the man said as he prepared to pull the trigger. Reyyan was paralysed and could only mutter a few parting prayers for her soul, when suddenly another gunshot sounded, and the man fell to the floor clutching his leg.

Reyyan's eyes flew open, as Melissa emerged from the door, handgun in hand. She pounced on the man and handcuffed him and knocked him out in a single punch, but before Reyyan could say anything, her body gave up, and she fell into the dark nothing, pain forgotten and soul floating.

..............

Hazar was shocked that Reyyan was right and somehow saw through Miran's treachery that had evaded all of them, the ones who were supposed to be experienced businessmen. He had his people check all the company contract papers and Miran's personal records and was shocked to discover that most of the Miran Aksoy's personal documents were fake, and that he had somehow tricked the Sadoglus into signing their company as collateral if the project failed. Which meant that since Reyyan was not here to marry him, he could sink their company.

He rubbed his face as he now held the records of Miran Aslanbey, the man who had been fooling them all along, most probably motivated by the Aslanbey matriarch, who held a poisonous anger towards him. She believed him to be her son's killer, even though it had been proven he remembered nothing of the night; he too was attacked.

But she will not relent, and this time, that evil woman had targeted his innocent daughter.

As Hazar pondered what to do next, Nasuh entered his office.

"What did you call me here for?"

Hazar silently passed all the papers to him, and Nasuh's eyes bulged as he saw them.

"What is the meaning of this? Our deal is already falling through, and to make matters worse, you are digging through Miran's past!? What if he hears of thi- "

"Don't you see baba??!! We are being fooled! He is Azize Aslanbey's grandson, not Miran Aksoy! Please I'm telling you do something before he ruins us. Reyyan risked herself to find this- "

"OH, THIS IS YOUR DAUGHTER'S DOING?? I knew she would do nothing but stir up trouble!! First she smears- "

"STOP IT! JUST STOP IT! Don't you see we are being ruined!!! Leave my daughter alone and do something about this!!!"

"Hazar how dare you talk- "

"Hazar bey, your wife is here." One of his employees said through the door, but before he could reply, Zehra burst in through the door.

"Hazar Bey, I got a call from Adana. Reyyan has been shot!!" she screamed crying.

.............

Miran sat in his office cradling his head, eyes closed.

He now spent most of his time in his office, sick of his baba-anne's constant urging to lose focus on Reyyan, and Gonul's constant nagging.

He breathed through his nose frustrated as he felt his door open.

"Miran Bey, our spy at Sadoglu headquarters has informed us that Hazar Sadoglu and his wife have left for Adana. It was heard that his daughter is in a hospital there"

Miran's eyes flew open, and his heart stopped.

Reyyan...

Reyyan in hospital....

Miran grabbed his keys and coat and ran out of his office.
