I didn't become heartless; I just became smarter. My happiness will not depend on someone else. Not anymore.

Life was lighter.

Reyyan had survived. She had stood up on her feet- enrolling in university and getting a job at small bookshop- days spent calmly working on her own.

She finally felt at peace, sifting through books and conversing with people- lonely souls who had found their homes in the yellowed pages of these books just like her.

She was busy going through her the shipment of new books when she felt a stare boring into her back. As she turned around, she spotted a woman in bright clothes and a beautiful necklace with heavy beads supporting a small smile, making her stand out in the bieges and browns of the shop like a bright sunflower.

"Do you need my help?" Reyyan asked her softly as she held her gaze.

"You are very beautiful", the lady spoke, "you've been through so much and yet bloom so beautifully", causing Reyyan's breathe to hitch.

Who was this woman?

"Do I know you?" she quizzed the mysterious lady, but the lady only came closer and rested a hand on her cheek.

"He waits for you kizim. You need one another like the sea needs the moon..."

And with that she left the shop, leaving Reyyan confused and slightly miffed.

-----------------

Miran could not let her go.

He had torn the Sadoglus lives apart. He had torn his own life apart too, leaving Gonul and moving out of his baba-anne's home. He had sneaked into her home and stolen her belongings, clinging onto them as one clings onto the delicious nostalgia of a desire that was almost fulfilled.

Just like this plant sitting in front of him- he knew she loved plants. She sang songs to them and doted upon them like her children.

So he had sneaked into the house and gotten her plants too. Now they sat on his office window. "You miss her too I can tell" he whispered while watering. "I miss her too. I did a terrible evil to her".

Miran continued his ramblings of hope- in his twisted mind he was setting everything right. He was building a heaven for him and his love, not realising the way he still continued burn people in his path just as before.

But what did it matter? They were not Reyyan.

Soon she would be his.

She would be.

She had no choice...

----

Her phone started ringing as soon as she collapsed on the sofa.

"Hello baba", Reyyan spoke into the phone, not letting her frustration show because however the things were, her parents still loved her and were the only ones who didn't wish her dead.

"How are you kizim? Are you well? Do you need-"

"Why did you call baba?" Reyyan interrupted him. He sounded agitated and it was already unlike him to call- to far into the steel grip of her Dede to actually check on her, settling for simple text messages instead.

"Reyyan kizim we have suffered great loss. Our company has sunk, and we lost Sadoglu konak."

"Guess I'm finally safe, since Dede dear doesn't have money to hire killers anymore."

"Kizim I- "

"Why did you call?"

"I want to request you to come back and", her father choked up, "and talk to Miran. It seems you are the only one he wants to listen to."

Reyyan froze.

Miran- he wants her back?????

"BABA! Why would you throw me to that man knowing what he did to me??!!!" Reyyan almost screamed at him, the tortuous memories of the last few months pouring in.

How could he even think about this?!

"Reyyan I know kizim! But he says that he will take the court case against us back if you meet with him just once", he stammered, "and don't worry- I will have my man tailing you so Miran can never harm you."

"Did Dede tell you to ask this of me? Goodness, you really have no backbone do you?" Reyyan bit at him, tired of everything and everyone who only remembered her when they wanted to use her.

But she should have known this day would come. Her past would come to haunt her, and she will have to face the demons gnawing at her all this time. And with only the thoughts of saving her mother and sister from the crisis, she agreed to his outrageous request.

"Tamam Baba. I'll come, but don't expect me to tolerate any nonsense that our family has brewed up all these months. I'm not the Reyyan that ran for her life."

"I know Kizim. But we really need you here, you are the only witness we have. And also, Gul and your anne miss you. Don't you miss us?"

"Baba you know I do. I said I'll come on the earliest flight."

She put her phone down with a sigh. Allah'im! How was she going to keep herself together? He will be there. The one who ruined her dreams and almost destroyed her family. How could she look into his eyes and not fall apart? How could she stare into the face of her first love and first betrayal and not crumble?

Well, guess she will find out-

There's a ghost in the house.

But,

I've learned that the house is me.

And the ghost is also me.
