Miran had gotten on the first flight he could find to Adana, as he ordered his men to keep following the Sadoglus as soon as they reached Adana. He was agitated, scared, and furious altogether as he entered the hospital and marched towards her ward, ignoring the pointed stares of everyone in the corridors but halting at the sight of her family standing thee too. But paying them no mind, Miran entered the room flustered and panicked, startling Reyyan, her surprise slowly morphing into a mixture of anger and fear.

What in the ever-loving divine was he doing here?

"Why did you leave me? How could you do that to me?" he huffed, red in the face, and Reyyan would've rolled her eyes, but she was too angry to even do that.

"You didn't let me explain, didn't tell me anything, just left m- "

"Tell you what Miran?", Reyyan began, numb with anger, "that I don't want to be disgraced and used like a toy just for some petty revenge and ancestral rivalry?? That I'm a human, not some machine you can use when you please?"

"Reyyan, I didn't mean t- "

"What? That you did not mean to hurt me? That in all this grand scheme of revenge, you had assumed that everyone is as heartless and closed off as you are? And anyone who isn't is naïve and stupid? I don't know whether to laugh at you or pity you Miran."

"Reyyan please come home. Don't put yourself in danger just because you are angry at me", he whined pathetically, few seconds short of getting on his knees, but she would have none of his lovesick act.

"You really think the world revolves around you huh? I left because you didn't love me anymore, and you get to decide when I leave or when you throw me aside???? Oyle mi? Have you considered that this was the only time I made a choice??? This engagement was your choice, your wish. Your revenge is your choice.... and my choice? My choice is to stay OUT of it. I know you don't love me, but if you ever even for a second thought me as a human being, leave me alone Miran! I have nothing to do with whatever happened to your family."

"At least listen to me Reyyan! Listen to my side of the story", he pleaded taking a seat, and Reyyan knew her disagreement would make no difference in his persistence.

"I'm listening."

So he told her. He told her everything.

How her family had killed her parents. How all his life he had spent preparing this revenge to finally give peace to his parents' spirits. How he was knee-deep in a pit of evil to do so. And he was sorry that she got caught in this web, that he truly wished that he didn't have to lie to her- that he had grown to like her.

And Reyyan believed him to some extent- the redness of his eyes, the tremor in his hands was not fake, she knew. But she also knew her baba was no murderer.

Something was amiss in his information, but she had no time to argue with him.

"Why should I believe you Miran? You've done nothing but lied to me since the day we met", she murmured and then turned to him with manic eyes, "Look me in the eye and say that you wouldn't have carried on with your revenge even if you realised that you liked me!

Look me in the eye and say you wouldn't have dishonoured me and then left me for the dead!!!

Look me in the eye and say...", her voice faltered"...that I meant something more than a means to a revenge..."

He remained quiet.

"You can't can you?" She let out a humourless laugh, "Leave. GET OUT! FROM HERE AND FROM MY LIFE!"

Her screaming brought in Melissa to her room, as she turned her icy glare on Miran.

"I think she told you to get the f-ck out" she bit at him, and Miran begrudgingly got up and left.

Melissa moved to comfort Reyyan, and collapsed in her arms as pathetic sobs left her.

"His eyes were so cold. I really thought ... I..."

"That he would somehow realise that he did you wrong? That he would come and say that he loves you and only you" Melissa said sadly, "Yes I heard most of it," she confirmed, smoothing a hand over Reyyan's hair.

"Those are fairy tales Reyyan- only in fairy tales do we get reunions and redemptions. I stopped believing in them a long time ago. It's time you do too." She whispered sadly, "For now Reyyan, get better- survive. You have this life and it is your own. No one unwanted should occupy a space in it".

So Reyyan lived- she carried through her treatment. She resisted the impulse to let go. She truly did. But Miran's lingering presence in the hospital did not make it any easier, despite him being told off by her parents and threatened with arrest on several occasions by her friend.

So much so that he was at the door to take her to his home- this was when she truly snapped, not caring who looked at them.

"Don't make me a sinner Miran! Don't insist on destroying your home. Go back to your wife. I have nothing to do with you so leave me alone. Whatever your problem is, you can deal with my family, but I'm part of that family no more! So, leave".

And she turned and left him there- still screaming, hounded by police officers who Melissa had thankfully called just in case.

No glances at him.

No glances at her parents.

She was empty now.

Reyyan walked along the shore, feeling the breeze and the heavy weight of her emotions- the memories curdling in her gut and making her ill.

So, in the beginning glow of the night, Reyyan screamed.

Screamed out to the sea as if it could hear.

She screamed her pain out.

Her screams echoed in the mountains, circling the sky carried by the wind. The birds circled around her as she fell to her knees, panicked and screeching, fearing that doomsday had come.

The sea pulled her. 'Come I won't betray you. My waves speak no lies.' Reyyan walked further. The water dusted her toes.

She walked further. Now she was knee-deep.

No!

No, I will live

I will live just to spite them

I will not die so easily

No

And with that she walked into the blue abyss no further, standing there to relish to the coolness for a few more moments.
