Once In the office I could see the principal sitting at his desk with a blue suit and an ugly tie. I noticed the name bar on his desk that said "Principal McKenzie". In one of the two chairs in front of his desk was who seemed to be a coach or P.E teacher by the clothes he was wearing. A man with shorts, a shirt, a cap and a whistle
Now with that man and the principal looking at me I remember the best phrase to describe my situation:
"I knew exactly what to do. But in a much more real sense, I had no Idea what to do"
He invited me to take a seat with a hand gesture so I take it and put my back pack on my lap, then he says:
-"Well, my secretary said you been waiting for me for a long time now, she also said you where a new student so I decided to let you pass but let me make clear that you can not just skip class and come demanding to speak with me, as I said I'm letting this pass only because you are new so now tell me, what can I do for you?"
-"I came to ask why girl's can't be on the baseball team"
As I said that the men who might be a P.E teacher or coach snicker.
The principal then clear his throat.
-"Well, I'm guessing you are asking because you where interested in playing baseball?
-"Yes sir" I replied
-"Did you play baseball in your previous high school?"
-"Yes sir"
-"Well that's nice, unfortunately we don't have a girl's baseball team here, and the reason for that is simple. First of all as you know this is a public school, that means that it requires the money assigned by the government through the school district and last year there was a shorter in the resources that forced us to stop some extra curriculars"
Well that's a cheap excuse if I ever heard one.
-" sir with all-"
- "wait, I haven't finished. That's the first reason and the second reason is: There are no girls interested in baseball here"
-" What?! That's not possible! There's gotta be at least one or two girls interested, but even if they are how can they play or even be interested if there's no team?"
This time the teacher who was all this time quietly listening answered.
-"Even if there are a couple of girls interested, one or two is not enough to make a team"
-"but there doesn't need to be a whole team only for girls, they could at least practice with the guys"
As I said that, that man bursted out laughing.
-" hahahaha, are you suggesting a co-ed team? Hahaha. Listen girl, is nice that you like baseball and that you got to play it with your girlfriends in your previous school, but playing baseball with the guys?? Come on! is going to be too rough! I don't think you or any of the girls at our school could handled it."
-" Sir" I said holding my self to still be respectful and not getting suspended for calling a teacher "as**ole" on my first day. I take a deep breath and continue.
"there was no girls team in my previous school, I played in the normal team. It's not like girl's bat weight less"-" yeah that's cute but trust me, you wouldn't handle a single ball from my guys, and I can't have them slow down to play with the ladies I mean we are one of the best teams on this district after all, did you know that?"
Ok so now that he has said " my guys" I definitely know he is the coach...great.
-"Yeah" I said because I knew that. I read about it when looking at the school page before moving here, that's why I was so excited to move here (well, besides Rachel). The baseball team at my previous high school wasn't so bad but this school ended up 3 in the whole district last season. The only thing they forgot to mention in the school page was that their coach was a misogynistic jerk.
Now...what do I do?
