JasminThese last few weeks have been so bland. It was like a broken record. I went to work, came home, cooked dinner, and was in bed by 9:30 pm. Ten at the latest. Ace surprisingly hasn't reached out to me which was weird but this is what I wanted.
I picked up my phone going through my contacts and dialed Stephen's number. I haven't spoken to him since that night at the club and I wanted some company tonight.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Stephen? It's Jasmine." I heard shuffling around until I heard a response on the other end of the line.
"Hey wassup? I meant to reach out but things have just been so crazy."
"No, I get it. I'm a lawyer so I know hectic but I just wanted to know if you were free tonight."
"Free for what exactly?" He chuckled.
"Well, I'm home and was getting ready to cook, maybe some wine?"
"I'm sold! Text me your address and I'll head over in an hour."
"Alright will do. See you then." Removing the phone from my ear, I tossed it to the side of my bed while I went into my closet looking for something to wear.
Stephen wasn't my average type of guy but neither was Ace. Who knows I could be missing out on Mr. Wright because of different cultures. He's middle eastern.
I heard my phone vibrating when I saw it was Ace's number. I looked at it bitting my lip, debating on answering my phone.
I turned off the ringer continuing my search for my outfit.
~Checking myself out in the full-length mirror, I hear my timer going off for the stuffed chicken in the oven.
"Comin'. Comin'"
My heels clicked and clacked against the wooden steps as I made my way to the kitchen grabbing my oven mitts when my ring notified me someone was by the front door.
"Shit! HOLD ON COMING!" I called out to the door. Sitting the hot pan on the stove, I removed the mitts fixing my hair and dress before heading to open the door.
I opened the door to no one. I looked outside to darkness and the wind blowing against the trees and leaves in my driveway. Closing the door I headed back towards the kitchen when I heard a ping coming from my phone.
Picking it up it was a text message with a picture of me.
'Damn that's what you're wearing? the next text said.
being a lawyer weird people always had my number so I always got weird texts. There was a gate surrounding my house with one of the best security systems in America. So I wish a bitch would!
I looked out my front window responding before the unknown number flashed across my phone. I picked up.
I shifted my weight to my hip looking out into the woods listening to silence on the other end.
I hung up my phone walking towards the kitchen when the door rang again. I rushed to the door, yanking it open screaming.
"I don't have time for the games tonight!" I yelled right in front of Stephen's face while he stood there with wine and roses in his hands.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! Come in, please!" I pulled him inside locking my door and looking outside.
"Looking for someone?" He asked removing his jacket.
'Umm n-no just checking. I'm glad you could make it. here let me take your jacket." I touched his shoulders and he was pretty built. Which made me feel a little bit safer with whoever is deciding to play with me tonight but I'm gonna ignore it.
He fixed the collar of his button-up before smiling at me realizing I was practically drooling over his appearance. The cologne was the icing on the cake.
I showed him to the bottom level Livingroom when his eyes lit up looking at the view of the woods.
"This view is amazing!"
"Yea I love it. I get that all the time." I handed him a glass of wine as we sat on the sectional couch.
"So you're a lawyer? Ever have to defend a celebrity?"
"Mmm yup a few, just a few months ago I had to get NLE Choppa out of jail. The kids stay in jail." We laughed at my auntie accent and sipping my wine.
"I only know the name NLE Choppa because of Sky Jackson and I only know who Sky Jackson is because my niece's favorite show is Jessie. But if I walked past this CHOPPA guy I promise you I wouldn't know who is he." We laughed when I heard my phone ringing again.
"Do you need to get that?" I emphasized the 'P' in nope while taking another sip of my wine.
"Okay well tell me a little about yourself," He turned towards me laying his hand on my leg.
"Well I'm from Houston but I moved to New York to go to school and then I just---"
When a loud glass shattering sound coming from outside. We got up, rushing to open the back door.
"That was my car hold on let me go see." He walked to the end of my driveway while I waited in the doorway shivering from the wind throwing me in its rotation.
I heard some shuffling, then a silence.
"Steph?" I called out to him but no answer.
"Steph?!" I called out one more time before stepping into the gravel driveway.
Walking down the long driveway I finally see him turn the corner to him looking at his car.
"Hey, I was calling you. Is everything okay?" I shivered as we looked at the front windshield of his car and it had a brick through it.
"Oh shit! What the fuck?!" I examined it looked around on the street to see if I saw anyone but to no surprise they were already gone.
"Come back inside and we can call the cops and a tow truck." Veins popped from his forehead as he analyzed the vehicle. I felt bad. Apart of me felt like this was my fault.
~
"Yes, officer if anything else happens I'll be sure to give you a call." I nodded walking him out the door.
I could tell Stephen was stressed about his car and that made the rest of our date start going downhill.
"I'm really sorry about tonight, maybe we can plan something again?"
"I'd like that." I smiled before he hugged me wrapping his arms around my waist.
We almost kissed but his car service pulled up.
