Detective Chidi's Office

Pacing the floor, waiting for Detective Chidi to come into the office. His assistant let me know he was running late for the day so I waited impatiently in the lobby. My nerves were unsettling. Seeing Brian's dead body through me for a loop.

"Ma'am, can I get you anything?" His assistant asked me for the third time in the thirty minutes that I'd been waiting.

"No, I---"

"I'm so sorry I'm late." Detective Chidi rushed into the office grabbing his mail and a few folders from his Assistant while keeping his eyes glued to whatever was on his phone.

"Umm Mr.Chidi," His assistant pointed to me who stood there looking like I hadn't had sleep in a week.

"Ms.Montez. How are you?" He took a second to scan my attire before giving me a delicate smile.

"I'm...Okay. I need to talk to you." I clutched my purse in my hands swallowing the lump in my throat before he nodded leading us into his office.

Walking into the secluded office the first thing I noticed was a picture on his desk of a smaller version of him and two younger girls embracing each other. One was younger than the other. Any other day  I would love to question him about it but I needed to let him know what was going on.

"Those are my little sisters," He smiled at the picture---assuming he saw me analyzing the photo.

"They are beautiful girls. Must be nice. I am an only child." I gave a slight smile.

"I mean I guess. I haven't seen my youngest sister in a few years. She had some trouble with an Ex boyfriend and well..." His energy went from sad then a flash of anger spread across his face before he had to ground himself again to bring himself back to the subject at hand.

"Anyway, how may I help you today Ms.Montez?" Detective Chidi sat back in his chair giving me his undivided attention.

"So I've been seeing this guy. His name is Ace."

"Ace?" He asked me, unsure. Removing his phone from his handkerchief pocket.

"Yes. He goes by Ace  I met him in Brooklyn at the FireHouse Lounge. Apparently, he is a club promoter," He took his glance off me to type some things on his phone.

"Ace and I have been seeing each other since then. There is a businessman by the name of Brian Jean that  I use to represent and he use to flirt with me. I don't know how Ace knew or...Brian's body is in the industrial off of route Ten." I cut right to the chase.

"And how do you know this?"

"I followed him one night and let's just say when you go looking for something you'll surely find it."

He looked at me waiting for me to elaborate. I know he couldn't do much with that so I let him know about the body wrapped in heavy-duty plastic sheeting in the ditch.

"Do you think there is any connection with Stephen Samuels?"

"Brian and I never dated or showed any public adoration so if he killed Brian for something so simple as just talking with me then..."

"He has connections with Stephens's disappearance." Detective Chidi finished my statement, standing up and sending a few text messages.

Just as we were wrapping up our meeting, My phone rang with Ace's name flashing across the phone screen.

"Answer it." Chidi requested. I took a huge gulp before answering the call on speaker.

"Hello?"

"Yo where you been, ma? I've been calling you all weekend."

"Y-yeah I know I just have been busy with work and everything." I lied.

"Ight, well I'm heading out of town for a while. When I get back I can see you."

I looked up at the Detective before he nodded his head letting me know to agree.

"We can do that." Chidi put his thumb up. He started mouthing that I should ask him his whereabouts.

"S-so where are you?"

"Just out and about busting some moves...Where you at?"

"Umm I---" I looked at Detective Chidi for an answer. At this point, I was nervous even talking to Ace.

"You what?" His tone became more aggressive.

"I'm with a friend." Even I wouldn't have believed that.

"What friend? A Nigga?" I could hear his teeth gritting.

"What? Ace, please." I scuffed.

"Yeah, ight Jazmine. Don't fucking play with me." That is all he said before I heard the phone line go silent.

I looked at Detective Chidi before he looked at the phone making sure it was off. "Okay tell me exactly where the location of the body is."

Omniscient

Jasmine paced the bedroom waiting for a call. She constantly glanced at her phone screen only to still see nothing but the home screen.

"Ugh," She groaned. She was waiting on detective Chidi to call with further information but it's been five hours since their meeting in his office. Jasmine was so anxious about this call. She didn't know what would happen she just wanted to hear some sort of feedback.

Jasmine had been so occupied with her thoughts and nerves that she finally took a second to use the bathroom when she heard the phone ring from the bed. Rushing to finish up her routine by wiping and flushing the toilet and rushed to her phone.

"Hello?" She picked up enthusiastically. "Jasmine..." She could hear the disappointment in his voice.

"Yes. What happened?" Her eyes switched around trying to clear a single thought.

"There isn't a body here..."

"what do you mean? I tripped over the huge thick plastic sheeting. It almost swallowed me. Check again. It's all the way in the back of the building in a ditch."

"My whole team literally checked the whole premises. I am standing in that ditch but there isn't any plastic sheeting or a body. Just dirt." Detective Chidi sighed.

"...I know what I saw and fell on." Jasmine grew irritated going down her stairs to the kitchen pacing back and forth.

"Well unless you have any more information or factual evidence..."

"Are you calling me a liar?" Jasmine's tone went up an octave, getting defensive.

"No, I'm just saying..."

Jasmine jumped, startled by Ace staring at her through the back door window in her kitchen. His eyes were nothing but black and wouldn't look at anything BUT Jasmine.

"I-I gotta go..." She muttered before disconnecting the line. The two never broke eye contact as she went to open the door. She knew she had to act normal or Ace would suspicious. Ace felt there was something off about Jasmine or maybe she knew what he had been up to. Either way, this wouldn't be good for either of them...
