"Call him!" Ryan pryed. Ben called me all day and I didn't answer. Not only because I didn't want to talk about last night, but also because I couldn't come to terms with the fact that we almost kissed. I was embarrassed for a brief moment before I remembered what else was going on in my life.
I continued to stare out the window of Sophie's kitchen window. It was raining outside and the sky was black. The thunder shook the house, but I barely noticed.
I heard faint ringing in the background. No one was answering the phone. I became impatient, before I realized it was my phone. It was still ringing in my hand. Ben again.
I muted it, but before I could lunge away, Ryan grabbed it. He started talking as he went into the bedroom. I wanted to go after him, but I decided not to.
Sophie was starting to fall apart. We had no clue where dad was and Carson had been gone all day trying to get a lead. She didn't even bother trying to hide it from me anymore. I had barely spoken all day, so it didn't matter what she did.
I was crying off and on all day, but Sophie was just staring into space. She hadn't cried in front of me once.
"I can't believe this is happening." I said. My voice was hoarse from not talking.Sophie shrugged in response. It seemed that she shut down on me.
I looked around the apartment again and realized that I felt trapped. I wanted to get out of here.
"I'll be back later." I said. Sophie shrugged again, still staring outside.
I grabbed a coat from the rack and went outside into the cool air. It felt amazing. I didn't have a car, but what did it matter? The town was small enough. I found myself downtown at the square at seven in the afternoon. It was dark now, but I don't know what time I left.
I walked into the grocery store and was surprised that everything seemed completely normal. No stares, no laughs, no looks.
Suddenly I was almost ran over by some kid. I turned around to glare at this person when I saw who it was.
"Logan?" I gasped.
"Hey, sorry about that." He looked just the same as last night. I couldn't believe I almost asked him out twenty four hours ago.
"Its fine." I smiled.
"You left quickly last night. Do you remember much?" He asked. I hoped he didn't remember me.
"Um, yeah. Everything actually." I said. Every detail of last night was burned into my mind.
"Oh. My mind is kinda foggy. I do remember the prank though, but nothing after that. Hey what were you going to ask me last night?" He was talking so fast I could barely keep up.
His coat was long going all the way past his knees. He had on jeans underneath. He looked really good. My coat was just barely hiding the blood stains on my knees.
I needed to get new clothes.
"Uh, I don't know." I lied.
"You said you remembered everything?" He smirked.
"Uh, well I did. I think." I stammered. He wasn't letting this go. Maybe if I make it a joke, he would find it funny.
"C'mon, tell me." He asked, pinching my arm softly.
"I was going to ask you out. Crazy what a little alcohol will do to you." I said, laughing. He was silent. Well, shit.
"Wow." He said. He still looked directly at me. I was beyond embarrassed, but thankful for the distraction. Maybe what I needed was a good distraction.
