Three Hours Earlier:

Kelly's POV:

I needed to see Carson. I had to make sure he wasn't leaving. I know I waited until the last minute, but I had to. Since I had no clue where he lived, I went to the police station.

There were decorations and people were celebrating the holiday. Many officers were taking bets about how many prank calls there would be.

I found Carson in his office with another detective. A woman to be exact.

"Hey," I said, casually. The woman left without a word, leaving the two of us alone.

"Hey." He said, while looking down at his papers.

"I want you to stay." He looked up at me indifferently.

"I can't." He was killing me. I decided to do the craziest thing I could think of.

"I'll divorce Liam!" I said, slamming my hands on his desk. He looked up at me in surprise.

"No, you love him. I won't let you." He said, standing up.

"I love you more. I want you to stay. I want my kids to know you. I can't deal with Liam any longer anyways. It was only a matter of time before I broke down." I explained. He sighed, shook his head and hugged me.

"Think it through." He whispered.

"So you'll stay?" I asked, hopeful now.

"Until you decide, yes." He said.

"Thank you, Carson! I love you!" I couldn't control my smile. Once I left the station, my mind wandered to Liam. Would he be hurt? Would he expect it?

I had to tell him, but not tonight. He didn't deserve that. I would just have to lie.

What could a little white lie do anyways?

Hailey's POV:

Present Time:

I couldn't stop looking at her. She was shot with no sign of a struggle. It looked like she had been moved, so she was sitting up. Her blood had pooled out of her chest and onto the floor. I fell down to my knees into the huge black mass of blood next to my mother's body.

She has been dead a while, cause the blood was almost dry looking.

I ran from the room.

"Dad?" I yelled as I fell over a chair.

"Dad?" I yelled again, running upstairs.

"Dad?" I screamed. Their bedroom was empty.

I ran back into the kitchen. My father and his gun were gone.

My breathing was accelerated. My heart was throbbing in my ears. I fumbled for my phone and fished it out of my pants pocket.

I dialed Sophie's number. No, answer.

I called her again and got no answer. All I wanted was to see her, but I didn't know where she lived.

I called Ryan three times before he picked up. By now, I was slouched over on the floor directly across from mom. I couldn't stop looking.

"hello?" Ryan said. I woke him up. I didn't know what to say. What could I say in the middle of the night on Halloween?

He would think it was a prank.

"Where's Sophie?" I asked. My voice was shallow and barely audible.

" At her house? Why what's wrong?" I could tell he was more awake now.
